thought it was time to show off my latest interest, these are flats another and one of the oldest of the toy soldier family. I've been curious for a long time, may be in my blood as I'm an air force brat, born in Germany and way more than 50% german. These pic really don't do justice, the figures are razor thin and a figure to the top of his hat on foot is about 1-1/2" tall.
I mostly blame George for getting me started in this!;)

I always find it amazing how a flat figure can look so 3D, I know it's great painting but I have never managed to get these results.

Nice collection, if there are any flats at the London show two weeks today I'll take some photos.

I agree with Jeff; the detail is amazing...and what a nice change. Thanks for sharing your new passion.

Hi Jeff,
Yes please take some pics, I am reletively new to flats and don't even know much of whats out there especially commercially. most of these come from Russia and my attempts at painting just is not worth mentioning. The quality of these is something I have trouble even concieving in this scale, I had to have them!!!

The Russians are coming!!

Ray, great collection of flats! Thanks for giving my favorite media a boost here!

I think I saw the e-Bay figure shown below at MFCA. In fact, I bought a Napoleonic foot figure from the same lot - but for much less. It is very well painted - these were painted in Russia on commission but not by St. Petersburg a/k/a Areo Art.

How's your painting coming?

Great figures, painting and collection of flats. Thanks for the pics Ray.

Thanks leadmen, I've got more and I'll post some allies soon.
PJ dosen't seem to amtter how many times I read the articles you sent me, this is really hard to do well, I've found a good way to break in is to add detail to some pretty plain sets I've bought, I'll send some pics to you.
I also never did get any way to dry them speedily so I'll work one night and they'll sit for 3-4.

Ray, you are a very sick man! :D

Wow! these are superb!

Jeff

Btw, I only saw one set of flats at the show and that was a set of 16thC figures.

Hi Jeff, Thanks! yes I saw the flats, looked really well painted, did you catch the price?
You can see my dilema, this is the way the Napoleonic period should be represented in mass, can you imagine the cost and space for this at 60mm???
