Ray,

Collecting flats is a very under rated part of our hobby. Imo they are up with some of the best painted figures around today.

Thanks for posting these photos.

Jeff

I have a friend here in Quebec, Canada who was born in England and lived in Australia. He collects old Britains and flats which he also paints. They're nearly all Napoleonics and are certainly beautiful.

I mention this because it's given me a chance to look at flats and appreciate them. I like seeing them, new and unpainted, in their boxes. They gleam and look so new.

More excellent figs.

Very good stuff here. I saw a very nice medieval diorama with 30mm flats during my holiday and posted a few pics in another thread (as they aren't napoleonic). Some of the figures on display at the museum (Ommen, netherlands) were simply amazing.

****!! I went and did it...told myself I was not going to cross the Napoleonic line....still 30mm but...I am powerless to the beauty and art:(

Thank you Mike. I have found a really nice way to store/ display my flats. I was in hobby lobby last week and found picture frams and display boxes 1/2 price. I got these wood and glass display cases for $12.00 each and there pre-made with hooks on the back to hang on the wall. great price and a classy way to display them they have several sizes with these 15" x 12" being the largest.

Ray, that's a great way to show off your collection.

Many years ago a friend of mine used to do the same thing, but he only painted one face of the figure, I said it was cheating but he replied that this way he could paint twice as many in the same time and when displayed like this nobody would know....he had a point.

Anyhow, keep them coming.

Thank you Jeff, I've been struggling to sizeing photos to fit the forum since Hotmail changed to a new "Improved" version. but I done the work around now and I have some great photos I'll post.
As far a one side painting, it feels like half a job or figure to me. Full painting is the way i go, Though i must say the journey of collecting flats has taken me thru many different stages of collecting and collecting preferences.

Hi Ray,

I have been following this thread with great enthusiasm and interest. Your flats are absolutely amazing! Please keep the photos coming. I am loving every minute of viewing these wonderful figures!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks guys, turns out I'm still struggling a bit with resizing some of the better sets pictures but I'll continue the effort.
Pat, part of the reason I started this thread was when my interest in flats was first forming I mentioned it on the forum and you requested I show some of my journey.
It's really nice to be able to be part of the diversity and breadth of our hobby on this forum, it is truely a great place to be a member of.
Right now one of the issues I'm exploring is display and dioramas, 30mm is not a huge field but I have found some interesting possibilities in the 28mm field. On the Wargamers society web site In there forums there a guy named "Joe" who has done the best coverage of European shows and conventions I've ever seen! Including links to Manufactures and makers.
Yesterday I literally spent most the day browsing pics from 2008 forward. totally fascinating what else is going on out there.
Here's a link to the forum thread site, pick nearly any of the threads done by Joe and prepare to get Lost!!!

Dear all,

just came across this forum by chance and being quite happy to see flats being so much in favour.

To show what can be done I add some pics of a St. Petersburg painter. Remember these are all 30 mm !! But not of my collection.
