Great thread Ray and Alexander. I enjoy viewing your flat collections and the knowledge of painting this type of figure. Thanks for sharing. Leadmen

This is something else! Just look at the detail that has gone into this...:cool:

Jeff

Alexander,
Yes that is a great diorama, can you give me a link to view this again? I have forgotten where to find it?
these pictures I have listed before but they are closeups of the action in the diorama and show how well detailed each figure is in this scene. I wish I could find some close-ups of the lancers and other details as well.

Alexander,
Thank you, what great figures, I'd like to see what goes into "converting or scratch building" flats. I know I have a difficult time sometimes just cleaning flash off of new figures, can't imagine recarving?
I brought the other closeups of the action over as there too good to miss.
Ray

Dear Ray,

you may find more details here

http://www.britishflatfigures.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1455&SearchTerms=wolkenstein

at BFFS Forum and some more close ups from building stage of diorama

The big photo was sent to me from a fellow collector and these, which show a horse team in detail (which was "scratch built" i.e. converted from other flats) :

Just got an email from my Russian painter that my Christmas present is ready for shipment, some Borodino figure sets. Not the exceptional paint that Alexander has shown us, but I'm really excited to add them to my collection.
First, Russian Guard Cuirassiers of the Emperors regiment and Westphalian Chasseur-Carbiniers(Though I think there carrying muskets instead of carbines). 1 of 2

Ray, that's a very, very nice Christmas present you have there.

Hey Ray,

Many thanks for this STUNNING thread! It's so great to see mass displays of flat figures and great battle scenes. Hopefuly, this exposure will help acquaint those who are not familiar with our passion about the hidden joys of flats.

BTW, a link to this thread made it to a BFFS thread - so I hope those from there will find Treefrog and post some of their collections here. Thanks for that "aba."

Thanks PJ, I've got another crop coming in soon and I'll post some pics then.. I think it's time to talk to Build-o-rama about a nice matt to display these on in there full glory, really need to do some serious lighting as well.
I have actually been having a dialogue with Alexander (aba), I got an email from J. Barriere the french flat maker, telling about the auction last weekend in Paris and I wanted to pass it on as he is a collector of connoisseur painters such as Vladimir Douchkine. Alexander it turns out was already there and won several lots of Douchkine, look forward to seeing them.

Hi Ray,

Looking forward to pix of your latest acquisitions.

I saw some pix of the Paris auction lots, and they all looked really nice. My flats collection consists of mostly what I paint or acquire at shows - which is usually from Russia. Not all that familiar with the names of "classic" flats painters - but I know what I like!

Yes, I'd say its time for a serious diorama setting for those gorgeous figures!

PJ,
I'm not all that familiar with those considered "Icons" in the flat universe either, but I do recognize names I've seen discussed on other boards. I will tell you this, serious euro's exchanged for some of those sets! you mentioned this thread on the BFFS site, I couldn't find it so I figure it's in the members only section?

Oops! My error! It IS in the members only section. Post by Alexander.

Yup, I have seen some of those prices. Like fine art on a smaller scale. Beautiful work. If you like it and can afford it, then go for it!

I have a few one-of-a-kind figures, some Courtenays, etc. If they give you pleasure, then they're worth it. I can get a similar pleasure from painting figures myself, and I do confess to sitting with a brandy on a cold night and admiring my own work. :D

Finally coming up for air as the crowd thins at home after Christmas. Really had forgotten just how much work a 1, 3 and 6 year old are... especially all at once!
Santa had perfect timing as a little parcel from far to the east and north arrived about 4:00 pm Christmas eve. Took some quick shots for posting, can't leave ANYTHING laying around unattended for a single minute!
Saxon Guarde Du Corps and The Emperors regiment of the Russian Guard, both at Austerlitz.

I'm really smitten with this Russian artist I am using and will explore just how fine a work he is capable of.
Westphalian Carbiniers and Zastrow Cuirrassiers also both at Austerlitz.

Great stuff, Ray. I'm very jealous!!

Glad you had a great Christmas, and hope your New Year is also great.

Thanks for the posting.

PJ,
Thanks for your constant support, I hope I can return the favor someday.
We earlier in the thread were talking about flat artist, I found a site on an italian artists site that talks about many of the better know artists out there. Mostly in Italian however there is a synopsis of each artist in english.
If you haven't already seen it it's worth a look, here's the link:

How about some Melee shots!
