Watching 633 Squadron right now on Military Channel...the props in this movie are outstanding! Mosquito's, fuel bowser (RAF blue),
RAF ambulance, German Flak towers, Sdkfz-231, all in the first 5 minutes! {sm3}{sm3}{sm3}

......and the green/black bowser could be seen last night in a BBC documentary about
the Dambusters:The race to smash the German dams!!!

Ended up watching th late showing of this last night. The Mossies are easily the best thing about this movie. -- Al

I agree Mossies and the music, one of the best War film music scores ever I'd say.

Shame they had to right off three of the planes making the film:mad:

Now that is a shame and a loss for everyone. It's kind of sad to think about all the original aircraft that have been lost making films for us to see. -- Al

I hadn't ever heard about the loss of all three Mossies for the film. The belly landing sequence looked like a real plane, or a real good replica. The "shoot downs" were all models.

At the end of the film Lou Diamond Phillips mentioned that Cliff Robetson wanted to buy one of the Mosquitos, but the owners weren't selling. He had to "settle" for getting a Spitfire.

Recently acquired a 1:32 diecast model and it's quite eye catching. Would sign up for a KC version if one were offered (hint). Chris

By the way, Wikipedia has a nice article on "633 Squadron" and they mention that EIGHT mossies were gathered, though not all flew. In looking at the film, one usually only sees three in flight together (the "squadron" shots were paste ups) and in the initial landing sequence four are seen taxiing. As many as three were write-offs during the filming. The aircraft were mostly ex-target tugs that the RAF had just obsoleted a couple years before the film. The Perspex noses and front windows were painted over and guns added to approximate FB VI's.
