Tom asked me to put this on the forum:
I found a picture in the magazine " Paris Match" of the 13 june 1964 ( anniversary edition of D-Day) of 3 soldiers belonging to the 82nd airborne in an unusual camo uniform . The text next to the picture says: A para of the 82nd airborne just died in an orchard in the bocage in Normandy, his face is peaceful but you can see a lot of sadness on the faces of his surviving comrades.
I know this type of camo was worn in Normandy for a while, but it looked a lot like the German SS camo uniforms and attracted a lot of friendly fire . Therefor it was withdrawn after a while.
Has anybody anymore info about this type of camo worn by the 82nd during the Normandy campaing ?????

Here are the two pictures . In fact it is only one picture but because of its size I had to scan it in two parts on my scanner

Thanks Martyn
Mystery solved. I knew the 2nd armored was wearing these in Normandy but was confused now because of the text next to this picture in the anniversary issue of Paris Match

I have seen this picture in a number of sources say its airborne incorrectly and, some that have stated its corectly army.its been used many times by people in the wrong context which, is not unfamiliar with many authors. Gicop is correct in the facts he states that these are indeed not airborne troops at all

Not Airborne...Elements of the 2nd Armored Division....They were short, lived because they were similar to German uniforms. Alex
