Watching the memoriam programs on History Channel. Sadly, it seems like it was yesterday, but has been 22 years. Unbelievable to me til this day. We should never forget this, although, I feel like today it has been minimized in a lot of ways.

Tom,

I couldn't agree more. I was there that day, saw the second plane hit, and when I tried to talk to my 16-year old daughter about 9-11 today, she looked at me like I had two heads.:redface2:

I was in elementary school on 9/11...a decade later I was in Afghanistan...the first time.

My son . . . a battalion chief with San Diego Fire Rescue . . . was at the recovery stage at the WTC. As he had previously visited NYC several times for the St Patrick's Day parade (a big thing among firefighters), he knew a number of NYFD people who died at the WTC. Thus it was a doubly tragic event for him. He has never talked about it other to say how good the locals were to them. We did see some pretty graphic photos of the SDFR team on the pile that he'd received from FEMA. To make a long story short, this year was the first time he'd been able to go back for the 9-1-1 memorial. Needless to say, we're very proud of him and hope he achieved a bit of closure this past weekend.

I watched a 5 part series on 9/11, believe it's called "This day in America"............so many sad and yet poignant stories told.............the firefighters helping a woman down the stairs of one of the towers, on the 4th floor she could not go on any longer, they paused, then the tower came down, they were in a pocket and somehow got out, had they not paused for her, they all would have died, they had a reunion after 9/11, she passed away 9 years after 9/11; the men of ladder 6 who rescued her were the pallbearers (that story really got to me)..............Two everyday citizens, one a former Marine, one a former EMT who had fallen on hard times both went to ground zero to help ended up rescuing two trapped port authority police officers.................only 18 people were rescued once the buildings collapsed...........................a cook at the Marriott who told a story of what he saw once the planes hit in the plaza.......................not for the faint hearted...............................a guest at the Marriot, a high powered lawyer, who was trapped at the hotel when the towers came down was rescued by a firefighter, who was later invited to the lawyer's daughters wedding.............................another gentleman who had a meeting at the Marriot and helped woman who was badly burned get to an ambulance, he thought she was going to die, he said the Lord's Prayer with her at the moment Flight 175 hit the towers; as it turned out, the man's sister and niece were on that flight.............................a man trapped on the 81st floor rescued by a guy who was with a group that started down the stairs but were told to go back up, the one guy was about to, then heard the cries for help, him rescuing that person actually saved his life as they both went down the stairs together to get out vs going up...............................a woman and 70 people trapped on the 89 floor rescued by four firefighters, once they saved them, they continued upward to rescue more people, the 70 got out, none of the four fire fighters got out.

Incredibly sad and also moving, how Americans came together that day to help others and the bonds that were formed that will last a lifetime.................
