A cavalry scene with pith helmets (1 Viewer)

Hi Walt and Louis,

thx for yr kind and generous compliments. That’s a very nice bust of Churchill.

To deal with the visual perspectives, I tk I hv to raise the bkgd height to accommodate the smaller bkgd figs. I’ll prob do this in stages.

rgds Victor

I’ve ptd additional natives.

ive also completed the mid grd cav figures. Attached them to thick wires and tested their placement on the base. Then ptd these figs.

Bkgd figs. What figs to use? I tested placing some wargames figs. Looks great. So I dug out my very olde Hinchcliffe 30 mm figs Nap household cav. Only had 3 of them and will be converting them for the purpose.

I had to rebuild the back of the base substantially to accommodate the smaller bkgd figs. I also added some foliage to the front wings. This was then repainted and then some midgrd figs were added. Building up a crowd scene here.

more cav figs are being made.

I posed the additional 4 cav figs into the scene to visualise the effect. Getting a very good crowd scene here. Upper row of figs.

The mid grd cav figures were developed and then given a first coat of paint. Notice missing limbs and distortions. Trying to fit the figs into the scene and stay faithful to the ptg. Added thick wire to the figs.

Developing the opposition as well. I need a lot esp in the bkgd.

so I am adding some tiny n and Ho scale figs for crowd scenes.

Looks great Victor, you've certainly captured the movement of the chaos and fury as the two sides meet ! :salute:::salute:::salute::

Hi Steve N Poppo

thanks for yr kind remarks. I’m a chaos kind of maker. HAhahHa

ive finished all the British cav. Getting kind of crowded. Now working on the native side.

And I’ve incorporated all the natives into the scene.

Mostly done except that I will add a few more natives n another small flag into the scene.
2nd pix is cropped to simulate the frame for this scene.

Hi Louis.

thx for yr inputs. I’m still adding more natives Off stage as these can be seen if y peer round the sides. So the additional figs will help to balance the mass of cav charging in.

Besides more larger figs to be added, I’m recruiting a few mahdists from my wargaming armies to fill in the crowd scenes. Hopefully the interplay of various sizes will add to the visual impact.

Coming into the final leg.

I painted a mob scene into the bkgd

Then added coloured wool to represent dust to mask the feet and wire supports.

then added larger wargame mahdists to the crowd scene at the back of the base. Also added a small yellow flag.
Repainted the sky in the bkgd.

Now working on adding 5 more natives to fill out the right side of the scene.

Whoever commissioned you to make this Victor is going to be very pleased with the result. Excellent work mate ! :salute:::salute:::salute::

Hello Steve n Jason

Here are the 5 natives off scene who will be eventually added to the right side. I’ll still have to do some adjustments on their sizes to create some visual perspectives.

i cut out a suitable frame for this scene. Ive completed all the natives HO n 1/72 a well as the 1/32 figs sand added them to the scene. Added lights then added the cover n frame.

i waited till nightfall to take these pics. The lights produce the highlights and dramatic shadows to create the chaos of the charge. A very satisfying piece for me as I am quite fluent with visual perspectives and staging now.

Largely finished except to add the label and magnetic latches. Hope you enjoyed the journey.

Rgds Victor
