A close look on the "Bunker Defenders" (1 Viewer)

Great point; with machine guns, grenades and shells lobbed in from ships exploding all around him, I'd fully expect that dog to be sitting upright with a ball in his mouth wanting to play fetch.........:rolleyes:

Great point George. Anyone who has seen a dog on the 4th of July (or November 5th for our cousins across the pond), or during a thunder storm knows that dogs tend to freak out, hunker down, and howl pitiously.

This appears to be Major Werner Pluskat, commander of the 352nd Artillery (Artillerie Abteilung) of the German 352nd Infantry Division.

Here's a scene from the Longest Day that I'm sure we all remember.

In the Osprey Book Dogs of the Third Reich Volume 3 it would appear that Pluskat did not have his beloved German Shepherd with him on the day, but rather his cross labrador/ Bull terrier called Heinz. It would appear to be a major inaccuracy in this set.

You made that up! :eek::D

I do the same when i hear Celine Dion sing AC/DC's 'you shook me all night long'!;)

If anyone ever buys a set and they do not like the dog that comes with it please contact me. I will buy them from you. I will give all the unwanted strays a good home.

I disagree wholeheartedly. The dog is in a nice crouching almost playful pose. Compared to the other dog in the Hitler set, this is a home run. Andy, they are getting better, keep bringing on the dogs!!!!!!!!

I must regretfully disagree with you TD.:D I have had dogs in my life since before I could walk and I can't see what you are seeing, except perhaps comparatively.;):) Each to his own expectations I guess.

I guess to me I meant it was a such an improvement over the Hitler dog! It is all subjective, that is for sure, for some reason, I kind of like this one.

Heck, while I am lobbing bombs.........the ABSOLUTE WORSE German Shep I have ever seen is a certain 1/6 scale Figurine from one of our toy soldier companies here on the board that shows a German officer and his dog, if that Dog is a Shep, I will eat crow, I am thinking it looks more like an Airedale. But that is my look at it, may not be someone else's.

I still think Figarti hit a home run with their Shep, he is just perfect for me.

What's wrong with the dog? I think it looks great. Thanks for the added touch andy.

I'd say it's pretty close. Could be ACN's inspiration for the set. We've seen other photos that corrospond almost exactly with released sets, EA01 and EA02 for instance.
Well spotted.

I knew there were many foreign contingents in the German army in Normandy, many serving reluctantly under SS officers. But I had not heard of Indian troops.
