A Day of Play (1 Viewer)

I must say, your play mat is an excellent idea, and I love what you do with it.

In your Revolutionary War display, you have a sidehall colonial house. I live in a 170 year old center hall colonial that started out looking very similar to your model (just flip the door and the window). It was originally a farmhouse owned by a farmer named Charles Smith, and was later purchased by William Cullen Bryant as the guest house for Cedermere, his Roslyn Harbor estate. He converted it to a victorian style house, building an extension at the rear of the structure, adding a wrap around front porch, dormering the attic and converting it into servant's quarters, and adding victorian style woodwork around the roofline. It was fun to get a feel for how my home must have looked when it was first built.

Here's a couple more images before I put the set up away.

I spent some time last night sculpting some rock formations to go with the diorama drape.

Your efforts sure paid off Joe with the addition of your sculpted rock formations adding to the realism of the tempory set up and looking for their appearances in other dioramas in the future.....The Lt.

Thanks, Joe. I was surprised to get time this morning to play. So, as you guessed, I wanted to get the rock formations into action. This morning I took my diorama drape back to the starting postion and re-engineered my little piece of nature.

Here is the starting point.

I laid out the accessories I took off the drape when I disassembled the Rev War set up on the hood of my car. (No other flat space around.)

I saw this old styrofoam piece up on the shelf and decided to draft it into service.

The contours begin to take shape.

I decide to lay the road lengthwise accross the table even though it isn't long enough to go all the way accross. I figure I'll limit my camera angles for this set up.

Now all I have to do is figure out what era I want to bring to life. I'm thinking WW2

Glad you found the time to play this morning and spent it to show us how you've created the setting for next round of play time. There's no doubt you'll be making those who collect WWII era very happy but won't be surpised seeing another era in history before you put it to bed. Thanks Joe and looking forward to what you come up with......Joe

Fantastic Joe!:) Just make sure those paratroopers don't hit a tree or rock coming down!!!:D;)

Play Time is over again. My wife is chomping on the bit to hit the road to the great North Woods.

That is one of the best looking dioramas I have ever seen.

I particularly love your drape and road.

You obviously spent a lot of time putting it together and I for one really appreciate your sharing it with us.

Very very cool!:cool::cool::cool:

I have to agree with Mike on this one !! Great stuff. Is it coincidence we have two Joe's on the forum who are sharing their playtime and great dio's with us :)

It's Wednesday again and I have a little time to play. First up is some more WW2 using the Diorama Drape and a B and T Products buiding I picked up from George G. a couple of years ago. Supposedly it was a custom piece made to match a building used in several episodes of the Combat! TV show. These shots also highlight some hedgerows I put togther.

Hey Joe.

My camera went goofy on me yesterday afternoon so I couldn't finish what I started. This morning I dug out my old camera and got a few shots. I wanted to see how a river looked with the drape.
