Below is a picture of Don Troiani's painting entitled "The Emmitsburg Road" on the 3rd day at Gettysburg. I have always considered that the painting perfectly illustrates how that stout post-and-rail fence-which straddled both sides of the road- became a serious impediment to the Confederate advance toward the Federal line atop Cemetery Ridge. Crossing that road is when the real carnage began.

Furthermore, I have always wanted to depict this painting using TS figures. But to do it true justice was simply not possible until the recent release of the four WB ACW fence sets.

Subsequently, following the purchase of aforementioned sets here are a few shots of an attempt of a pale imitation of Troiani's stunning painting.

Further pictures and text of this ACW episode have been posted down in the forum basement

Fantastic depiction of Troiani's painting Bob . . . . and you are absolutely correct, until now this would have been difficult to do. The recent release of WB's 4 fence sets w/Rebels easily help to facilitate awe inspiring diorama and photos such as this. In my opininon, these are the best ACW sets released to date and are a must have for all serious ACW TS collectors.

Bob,
That looks superb, it really does. I love that painting. I saw an episode about Gettysburg on The Military History Channel as part of The Battlefield Detectives series, it focused on Pickett's Charge and the reasons why it failed.

The main reason it failed from the shows perspective was that post and rail fencing, it bogged down the assault, it was too sturdy to be torn down/flattened, so they had to stop and climb over it, breaking the entire momentum of the attack.

The show also pointed out the vast majority of Confederate casualties were incurred along the fencing, many were killed or wounded, others surrendered there as well and did not continue on..................

Wonderful dio there, Bob! That painting by Troiani has always been a favorite of mine.

Great work Bob. Your dio is a tremendous rendition of the painting.
