Yeah!!!
Yesterday i watch this old movie from 1960 called Alamo, staring John Wayne,Richard Widmark,....i watch this movie many times but it is still very nice to watch. It is one of the evergreen i think.Even i watch some other Alamo movie once that play (i can not remmember right now,but i know this dude is old boyfriend from Angelina Jolie and he play in Armagedon,....Bili Bob Thornton!!!! i remmember now haha) well in this movie the defenders do not look so heroic so what is the truth?
In this other movie Davy Crocket look like a coward(???) and he play violine,...he is not so cool like when the John Wayne way play Davy Crocket. So who is the real Davy Crocket(coward, defender who just wannt to get some political points for his senator chair,or the indian fighter,hero,....)?
Is there any other movies about Alamo?
Is this Chapel Alamo is still to be seen and visit or the Mexican ruin the Alamo completely so now is no tourist atraction?
Ok this is one part of the thread haha.
The other part is i wannt to see your Alamo collection because i am thinking to start building my own Alamo collection tooo.So show us what you got!!!!
Photos,.....
Once i saw that one man sale his diorama homemade diorama Alamo in this forum,....so is there any other homemade dioramas?
I think the Alamo diorama is the basic to start with than buy the figures, because without the Alamo Chapel, the fort,...it is just a few figures,....not looking so nice.So how you all (Alamo collectors) get your Alamo fort,chapel,....

REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!!!

"Alamo,Alamo, the thirteen days of glory,..." i still whistle this song in my ears,so you know who play this song in this 1960 year movie in the begining and at the end is this song,...so who play this because i wannt to put in my cd so i can listen in my car :D:D:p:p

Ales, there are at least 4 movies about the Alamo that I know of, plus many others that refer to it in some way. You have seen the Wayne version (which he produced and directed) and the Billy Bob Thornton version. Both have good points and bad, accuracies and inaccuracies. Crockett was long done with politics by the time of the Alamo and he was not a Senator. He was a representative in Congress. They are separate things. The other 2 versions of the Alamo are one starring Brian Keith as Crockett and a movie done by Republic Studios in the 1950's that starred Arthur Hunnycutt as Crockett. They are ok movies but not as good as Wayne's and Thornton's. The Alamo is an iconic military action in US history and is extremely famous and widely known. -- lancer

You forgot the most authentic, realistic version ever done. Walt Disneys, Davy Crockett with Fess Parker. I think Davy is still swinging "Ole Betsy" at the Mexicans coming up the stairs.

LOL, you're right. How could I forget my first exposure to the "King of the Wild Frontier"? Fess was THE MAN for us baby-boomers. I can still sing that theme music 50+ years on. -- lancer

wow thanks,i read this and it is take me a lot of time but it is worth it.This UKReb really know "the business".I think he must work for the companys that make toy soldiers and catalogues because i am sure now a lot of buyers will spend more monney on Alamo that they will do without this photos.Because if figures are not display "in action" do not look so cool as they look if the UkReb "work on them".So at least King and Country can give him some free samples figures because he make good commercial for them.
I think UkReb is worth in toy soldiers like Cristiano Ronaldo is worth in football and i am sure Cristiano Ronaldo get a lot of free t shirts from his club :D:D:D
And i think UkReb and others who also are very good in dioramas and presenations you can print it in a catalogue and sale the catalogue on line or in toy soldiers shows,....maybe also print for posters,wallpapers,....maybe film it on camera and support by sounds of guns,screaming,....and put it on you tube.I think you need to show the world your gift and earn some monney from that.
Anyway i get a lot of answers in this tread too.
So if i go to visit in San antonio, can i see the chapel or anything like that?I hop ethere is still something to see,and photo?
And who sings this song 13 days of glory Alamo,Alamo,...i can not get out of my head haha

Thanks for your e-mail and your compliments on the Deguello dio-you have asked a number of questions that have been answered pretty well by all the guys who have posted replies.

The Wayne movie is without doubt the iconic version-albeit highly inaccurate-even down to Crockett's coonskin hat-there is no record anywhere that he ever wore one. The Disney version basically introduced that but it also highlighted and introduced the battle of the Alamo to the world at large. As Lancer states the Billy Bob version also had inaccuracies but is I believe to be the closest depiction of what possibly happened- especially the final assault and the aftermath-that we have yet seen on screen.

The music you cannot get out of your head was written by Dimitri Tiomkin with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster-the soundtrack from Wayne's movie I believe has long been deleted-although you will find the main theme (Green Leaves of Summer) on many movie compilations. The song The Ballad of the Alamo was successfully recorded by Marty Robbins (although he did not sing it in the film-that was recorded by an un-named studio choir) and all I remember of the lyrics is the last verse.

In the southern part of Texas near the town of San Antoine
Like a statue on his Pinto rides a cowboy all alone
And he sees the cattle grazin' where a century before
Santa Anna's guns were blazin' and the cannons used to roar
And his eyes turn sort of misty and his heart begins to glow
And he takes his hat of slowly to the men of Alamo
To the thirteen days of glory at the siege of Alamo

Good luck with your Alamo dio ;)

I'm going to see the Alamo tomorrow, San Antonio here I come.

Hey UKReb is there any toysoldiers show in Uk soon?
I am interested to the companys like Kind and Country that produce Alamo so it will be nice to see there dioramas and stuff so tell us if there is some show that King and Country is there also?
I am from Europe so i am interested only in show that it is place in Europe(Uk,France,Germany,Italy,...)

Thanks for the lyrics.

P.S.

I see you have a lot of figures,dioramas,....do you have enough room in your house to have all that display,or where you keep all that dioramas and figures?
Your house must look like a museum i think haha.
It will be good tourist atraction to visit your house and you can lecture about the historycal battles and we can also look at the dirama fights.Think about that :D:D:D:D

Hi Ed,

Have a great time in San Antonio! While you are there, say hello to my friend Compton Creel. He will be doing painting demonstrations there.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)
