A New Adventure (1 Viewer)

I thought it was a Victorian dragster, myself.

Yo Brad, that was cruel lol, but funny:D, hope our Pat sees the funny side after all his hard work. Time to get the big HAMMER out Pat it always works;).
Bernard.

Gentle Friends,

It seems I have some more work to do, so instead of concluding my adventure with step #14, there will be several more steps. Jeff and Scott have correctly pointed out that my coach is bowed. I was aware of this problem before I began my adventure, but was uncertain how to correct it. After all, this is the first time I have ever attempted a project of this nature. Originally, I limited my project only to learning how to touch up figures, not how to repair them. Had I not been so clumsy and dropped the set on the stairs, I would never have attempted any repairs to the coach. However, once I dropped the coach, the rules of my project changed and it seemed I had nothing to lose by attempting some repairs.

Fifteenth Step:

This step consists of listening to the feedback I requested from the more experienced artists and modelers. The information that has proven to be the most useful to me is that which was provided by Konrad (Kogu). Konrad correctly pointed out that the “bowing” was caused by the collapse of the front suspension. Once Konrad specified the problem, I began to see how I might make further improvements in the coach. I had been guilty of not seeing the forest for the trees! Thank you very much Konrad for being specific in a most helpful way!

Since reading Konrad’s post, I have removed the coach from my curio and begun to work on the front suspension. Already, it is clear that my work will require some more touching up of the paint. Fortunately, with the experience I have gained through this project, I know I can perform the required paint work.

Now, I am once again excited about how much I am learning and I am eager to see the end result of my efforts. I am also eager to post for your examination the “improvements” I make and to solicit your feedback concerning my work. Hopefully, with the changes I am presently attempting, I can avoid having the product of my work being perceived as a “Victorian Dragster.” :D

TO BE CONTINUED:

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Great job Pat, it is good to hear that you were not put off by our comments and have perserved on with your beautiful coach set. I for one look forward to seeing your work.

Pat,
your positive attitude is most remarkable.
I am pretty sure that some of us would have kicked that coach to eternity after watching it tumbling down the stairs.
Now there is another step coming up which might be more challenging then the previous ones but you are going for it and with your careful planing and researching you will most likely be successful.
On a side note, the company I am working for does suspension springs, stabilizer bars and such and when they started more then a 100 years ago they actually made springs for coaches.
Unfortunately we are working in a different scale so I can't be of assistence there :D
Good Luck with your repair work and thanks for showing us that it can be done.
Konrad

Gentle Friends,

Betcha thought I had given up on this project. :D Well, no, I have not given up. Instead, I have attempted to use your feedback to make some corrections on the coach. I made the corrections just prior to leaving for the Chicago Show and I have only just now been able to find the time to post a few photos of the present state of my set.

Below, you should find a "before" picture and an "after" picture. The "before" picture illustrates the problem I was attempting to improve: a collapsed front suspension. The "after" photo presents the coach as it presently exists. I apologize for the glare in the "after" photo. However, in spite of the glare, I think you will see enough to evaluate my effort to improve the coach.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Gentle Friends,

In making these improvements, I pushed, pulled, bent, and otherwise carefully attempted to alter elements of the front suspension. After all of my efforts, it was necessary to repaint portions of the set.

Below, you should fine a few final photographs of my work. Once again, I invite your feedback, your criticisms, your thoughts, and your opinions.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I think you have done a magnificent job on this set Pat. And I certainly think you have more courage than me at fixing the suspension. It is a real credit to you and I am sure will have pride of place in your Durbar parade.

So the next question is.......................what's next ? :)

Well you hooked now Pat. When you go to shows, you'll be looking for those slightly damaged and dent bargins to restore to like new condition or at least you won't avoid them as you may have done in the past. ;)

I think you have to admit that you do get a lot of satisfaction from a well done restoration project like yours. :D

I'd also would think that your new restored coach holds a special place in your collecton now too.

Congrats on seeing the project through and a job well done.

Chuck

Fantastic Pat! Well done in perservering with this project. The end results are your reward. Great looking piece.

Simon

Very well done, Pat.
It is a pleasure to see the finished product and that all your work and efforts paid off. Now it is sure a great addition to your Durbar Collection.
Excellent work, congratulations.
Konrad
P.S. I must admit though that I did have good laugh when the remark about the "Victorian Dragster" came up  :D

Hi Scott,

:D:D:D What's next? You gotta be kidding! After what I have been through with this set? I may never attempt another repair for the remainder of my life! All I wanted to do was to learn to touch up some paint chips and look what I got myself into! But, who knows what I might drop next!

Thanks for your kind words, Scott. The Landau Coach is in the parade for all visitors to my home to see. You should come see it sometime.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Chuck,

All of what you say it true. I see slightly damaged figures in a whole new way. And, yes, the coach holds a special place in my collection, but the best part is the story that accompanies it.

Thanks for your warm thoughts. I appreciate them very much.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Simon and Konrad (with a K - :D ),

Thanks for your very supportive comments and thanks for being interested in my project. Your support has been extremely encouraging to me. Who could have known I would transform a Victorian Dragster into a simple street machine?

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Yo Trooper, nice one Pat:D told you the big hammer would sort it. Next time you decide to go on a trip make sure you dont have any models in your hand:(. Serious though a real splendid job. Well done.;).
Bernard.

Gentle Friends,

Earlier, I promised to take a few photos of the Landau Coach set as it is displayed in my curio. I am now fulfilling my promise.

My photos are not of the highest quality due to the reflection of the flash and due to the mirrored backing of my curio. Nevertheless, I believe you will be able to adequately view the set as it is presented in my curio.

First, let me provide you with a bit of orientation. The set appears on a shelf with a variety of other Delhi Durbar figures. The shelf is almost exclusively devoted to Marlborough Durbar sets. In order to follow progression of my photographs, I shall provide some information regarding each photo.

Photo #1: This photo presents the beginning of the shelf display. The coach does not appear in this photo, instead, you see, from left to right, Marlborough Set #D58, The Dancing Horse of Bombay. The Dancing Horse is followed by Marlborough Sets #D17 and D18, the State Musicians of Bhopal. And, finally, following the State Band of Bhopal is Marlborough Set# D34, the 10th Jat Infantry.

Photo #2: You see the Landau Coach coming into view behind the 10th Jat Infantry. As you can see, the Coach is flanked on both sides by Marlborough Set #D75, Delhi Durbar Indian Dancing Women. I placed the Dancing Women on each side of the Coach in order to promote a sense of excitement and gaity that I believe should accompany the Durbar Parade. The Mounted figures following the Coach are Marlborough Set #D39, Bera Ekkan of Gwailor.

Photo #3: This photo shows the Landau Coach approaching the viewer.

More photos of this display will appear in my next post.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Very nice Pat, thanks for sharing your Marlborough Durbar collection with us. I am looking forward to joining the Durbar ranks shortly with the WB series. :D

Gentle Friends,

Let me continue the descriptions of the Landau Coach display I began in my previous post.

Photo #4: In this photo I have attempted to provide you with a full profile of the Landau Coach set. Once again, you see the Dancing Women flanking the coach.

Photo #5: The Coach is now passing the viewer and you can more clearly see the mounted Bera Ekkan figures that follow the Coach.

Photo #6: From this angle, you can see the entire procession from the rear.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing my modest display. Once again, I apologize for the quality of my photographs. My photographic skills seem to parallel my skills at repairing Landau Coaches! :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)
