As I was leaving the December London show to join my fellow Brit Brigade colleagues for our usual beer and grub meeting I spotted this Britain's figure of Col John Mosby on the table of a private dealer. It was a bit of an impulse buy for me because I already had the mounted figure in my collection. However, my impulsiveness was probably due to the price the dealer was asking for the unboxed figure-A Tenner (£10.00=$15.00) which for a mounted Britain's figure in the UK is an absolute snip. In fact another dealer at the same show had Mosby (properly boxed) marked up at the UK retail price of £60.00 ($90 bucks).

But what to do with two distinctive Gray Ghosts? A slight conversion and a horse repaint seemed to be the best way forward.

Pistol cut then ground flush/arm removed & gauntlet cut off. Gauntlet drilled and rewired to his shoulder. New arm molded, shaped to rest on his right thigh. His horse then repainted as a fine light bay with an appropriate white blaze and white fetlocks and the whole figure given a coat of matt varnish.

Result a non-descript/non-personality-but a much more versatile- mounted Reb officer for this Reb's own Army of Northern Virginia

Very nicely done, Bob. Looks as though he was born to lead that regiment into action. ^&cool -- Al

Thanks for the heads-up on this thread Bob, outstanding work as always .....easily exceeded all expectations, which are always pretty lofty when it comes to all things ACW and the UKReb.

Careful with the praise there otherwise his head won't fit through the pub door. And the last thing he needs is another excuse for not getting drinks in....

My mistake, I thought they already widened all the doorways at the London Show venue just for that very reason. And as far as paying for the drinks, it's my understanding that Bob has very deep pockets ..... unfortunately he's been cursed with very short arms. :wink2:

All in good fun Bob, I've met some generous people on this forum over the years, but none more so than your good self.

Hope you and Miss Trudi have a fabulous time in Oz, fill me in on your trip when you get back.
