" A Tribute" (2 Viewers)

I just read a post where someone suggested a series be done by K&C as a tribute to a particular group of airmen. And no, this is not a knock at the author of that post, but when I read request and the words "it should be done as a tribute or as an honor to these brave men, blah, blah, blah." I wonder how many manufacters actually produced a line solely to honor someone or group. I would bet none, zero. They make a line because they believe it will sell, period!
I,m sure all these companies make Waffen SS to honor them, no, they sell. Same with LAH.
Sure in their advertisements they may use those terms but that's not why they made them.
Suggestions for new lines are fine but be real about it.

I think you may find that as certain companies are ran by personal likes and dislikes then there will be a certain amount of he was a hero of mine so, I will reproduce it. Obviously, all manufacturers want to make a profit Der!!! but, there has to be a bit of interest and passion behind the reason why some sets are done.

I suspect, that having just raised the Tuskegee airmen that the post was kindled by my request for these replications well, I am real and, my whole point was they should be made on the basis of what their aircraft looked like and how easily reconizable they were to aircrews and ground troops and, used their resilliance and bravery as an embellishment (though none was needed) for release.

I know veterans from both sides who look at some of the releases with pride especially, german veterans who have spent many years fighting for recognition as soldiers and, appreciate the fact that their country even units are replicated in miniature I do not buy sets for the respect of these individuals or units but, due to their asthetic appeal but, I am accutely aware of what they represent.

I hope that my passion for this hobby never dulls into the point where posters need to be told to get real about a hobby which, is filled with emotion. One only has to look at the emotion centred around the new RAF range to see this.

Absolutely. Of course K&C and any other company want to make profits, thats what business is about. But when someone suggests a range as a tribute it doesn't mean they don't expect the producer to make a profit from it. The RAF range is a good example. Over here we are this year celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain victory, now I see K&C's superb range as a very fitting tribute (in the Toy soldier sense) to those members of the RAF involved in that historic Battle. However I don't for one second think K&C should make them for free, no company could do that and survive.

I know some people also don't agree with the word 'Tribute' when it comes to Toy Soldiers. However when I use the word Tribute I do not mean in the same way as say a national monument or two minute silence or Church service. By tribute I mean a Toy Soldier company producing a range of figures that is perhaps just a tip of the hat to that Battle and to the memory of the men involved. Its just another way the individual can remember, some watch films, some read books, some walk the Battlefields, some collect Toy Soldiers. I must say looking at those superb models of the Hurricane and Spitfire and the figures released with them, it does make me think of the Battle and how we were saved from hell on earth, so it works for me.

I also agree with Mitch, the passion some collectors show on this forum for their hobby is wonderful to see, suggest away I say!
