Many of you know of my deep interest in the AWI simply by my posts here on this forum and from having met in person at various shows. I've lived in NJ (the Phila metro area) all my life and was ecstatic when Museum of the American Revolution opened in Philadelphia, PA in 2017. While I've visited this museum a couple of times already, I've been looking forward to their upcoming Don Troiani exhibit ever since it was announced back in January.

I'm sure Mr. Troiani needs no introduction as he is one of the foremost historical artists of our time. You might be familiar with his ACW paintings and may have also noticed that he has focused on the AWI the past 10+ years. His art works are among my all-time favorites especially now that he is painting AWI subject matter!! His art exhibit opened this past Saturday and I was among the first in line along with my good friend Andreas (Andanna here on the forum).

Upon our arrival we were surprised to run into Ken & Ericka Osen. Ken and Don Troiani are lifelong friends and the Osens were there supporting his exhibition opening. Needless to say, we spent a good deal of time catching up with the Osens, speaking with them about the hobby and W Britains in particular.

For the rest of my fellow AWI enthusiasts I have some great news to pass along from the voices straight at the top of WB. There will be an intense focus of figures from the AWI range starting in 2022 and beyond as we enter the 250th annv of our country’s founding.

Additionally there will be more civilian figures that will fill the ranks of both the AWI and ACW ranges.

WB, like all other businesses, have been impacted by the pandemic. Ericka shared with me that their factories have improved by leaps and bounds and they are operating at top efficiency. Production of releases has about a 45 day turnaround. However, shipping has become the new problem with shipments taking up to 109 days to reach the US. Couple that with the energy issues facing China where the entire country shuts down for a 3 day conservation period and that 45 day turnaround could be effected.

My take away from the conversations was very positive and left me confident that WB is back in the game after a long hiatus. To kick things off, they are about to release some AWI figures that are modeled after Troiani’s soldier study series. There was a limited amount of the first 2 figures for sale at the museum and I purchased them both.

WB’s Facebook page details more pics of the next round of these releases. I am showing here a side by side comparison of the figure and Troiani’s art so you can see where this is headed:

Finally, my visit to the exhibit was topped off by meeting Mr. Troiani himself. He was doing book signings and I had him sign his recently published book which has all the art displayed from the exhibit. It was a thrill spending time speaking with him. He shared with me that the AWI is his favorite period of history and that he will continue to do more works from that era.

Tremendous report with a lot of background information and a (well founded) enthusiastic view ahead. Thank you, Mark.

Very informative, thanks for posting. I received the new catalog yesterday, and the upcoming Wrath of the Northmen figures look really sharp too.

Thanks for the very informative update Mark. Also, I didn't know about the AWI museum and hope to visit one day. Chris

Love the Rhode Island solder!

I do too. It is a fantastic sculpt and I think my photo doesn't come close to doing it justice.

Alas, it is the only figure from this latest painting that WB will be producing. I don't think we were able to talk Ken into making the whole scene:

You're welcome Chris. I'm sure you would enjoy the museum immensely!!! If you happen to make your way up here one day, let me know. Would love to meet you and show you all the great history up here.

To whet your appetite.........for those interested here is a link from the museum's website on the Troiani exhibit:

Back at turn of the century Conte made ACW vignettes based on Don Troiani's work sculpted by Ken Osen. That is what got me interested in collecting large scale figures. They were suppose to do one on Cowpens that I was looking forward to but it never got made.

I am hoping for more civilians to populate my town of Bent Forks. Especially, civilians in action poses that Ken does so well.

Those figures look great.

Are the figures that are based on the paintings only available at the museum? I plan on visiting with my family next month.

Walt

Great question. Where can we purchase the Rhode Island soldier?

My understanding is that these 2 figures have not been officially released yet but will be soon. The aforementioned shipping problems are effecting the release announcement.

To answer Walt's question........Ken and Ericka made a limited supply of these 2 figures available to the museum in conjunction with the Troiani exhibit. How limited the supply actually is I do not know. When I purchased them it looked as though as I bought the last RI figure and that there were 2 left of the British figure. The clerks in the museum shop were a bit confused over the supply and they couldn't find their manager in order to locate the remaining stock. I guess with it being the opening day of the exhibit things were a little out of sorts. Unfortunately I don't know if the museum has any left at this point but for your sake I hope they do. The museum does sell other previously released WB rev war figures however.

But not to worry, these new figures from soldier study art will eventually be available and if the shipping goes well, they could be released by the end of the year. Once released, any WB retailers like Treefrog will have them for sale. They are not exclusive to the museum.
