Accuracy, It's a Puzzlement (1 Viewer)

Talking of things that fly .... and accuracy

I am not expert on the RAF but as I ordered the new Hurricane (also want a Spitfire) I was interested in finding out more about 'County of London' Squadron. London is rarely called a 'County' so I wanted to find out more.

The new Hurricane was marketed as being in the colours of 501 Squadron, the County of London. The 501 Squadron (according to the Minsitry of Defence Battle of Britain website) is County of Gloucester; County of London is 601. This could be a typo.;)

The markings are correct for 601; UF denotes 601 Squadron and the K the specific plane. Interestingly, the 200 new Hurricane's are 'SD' which is infact the 501 Squadron. They appear to have different tail markings. It will be interesting to see what they look like.

Both 501 and 601 were based in the South East during the BoB.

The website is really interesting, including the daily reports from the battle which are fascinating
