Man am I excited. Within the hour UPS delivered my long awaited for set #31051 The Chosen Ground, set #1, Command set #1, 7 piece set and also #31053 Stretcher Bearer w/Wounded set. Suffice it to say I am in awe with both sets but especially The Chosen Ground (#447 of 500). It is just incredible. I want to thank Ken Osen and Richard Walker and the rest of the WB crew for doing such a marvolous creation - it was well worth the delayed wait. I do not have time tonight to take the photos I want, however it is supposed to be a "crappy" day here tomorrow weather wise - very cold and very rainy, so I will have plenty of time tomorrow to share these sets with you. But just to give you an idea on the exceptional quality of these sets here is a picture of just the box lid:

I assure you the contents (which included the certificate number, picture of Keith Rocco, another picture of Rocco's painting "The Chosen Ground", plus the history describing the events portrayed in the painting) are just fabulous. If you are a collector of WB ACW this is a MUST HAVE set for your collection.

More to follow tomorrow . . . . . . . Mike

Fabulous Mike, I will be waiting for your photos. I wondered when we were going to see some more of your ACW pics :) Did you get the base that goes with the chosen ground set as well?

I bet that is a great set Mike.I collected some of Britains Art of War 6-7 years ago which were based on Dale Gallon's paintings and I thought they were nice but with the advances in sculpting and painting I'm sure yours is fantastic.Hopefully there will be a set every year for you ACW collectors. Please post more pictures when you get a chance.

Nice one Mike. Both sets arriving on the same day had to be a joyous occasion. Have seen a few more photos of the figures in the Iron Bde set recently and they look pretty swell. By the way, can you tell who is coming up in the next line in the background of the painting? I've never noticed them there before. Looking forward to more photos of these soon.

Looks incredible...If I'm not mistaken the group coming forward in the background would have been the 6th Wisconsin. I believe the I Corps order of battle would have been..
2nd Wisconsin-
6th Wisconsin
7th Wisconsin
19th Indiana
24th Michigan

At least for that day at Gettysburg..the regiments were so decimated after that I believe it was changed around.

I absolutey love that I Corps flagbearer and can't wait to get ahold of that figure on horseback.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on the order of battle, as the focus on much of my collecting is on that first day of battle and I'd like it as accurate as possible. You can just imagine a weary Buford and tired dismounted calvary line trying to continue to hold off Heth's troops(all of which is now easily made with Britain's latest releases) cheering on the troops coming over the plains with Reynolds.
Will make for an incredible diarama...

Thanks for the feedback Dan. Agreed about the 1st Corps mounted figure also. I notice he is already sold out on the WB website and isn't even due for release until this Fall.

I have not ordered the base yet Scott. It is a special order item and is $300. With the four custom made bases I already have from Ken Osen, and another four on order from Ken, I just don't think I need it. However, now that I have seen the set I just might have to get the base to make it complete.

There is no comparison with the sculpting and painting with WB/1st Gear over WB/ERTL/RC2 - especailly with Ken Osen doing the sculpting. More pictures coming tomorrow.

I believe you are correct Dan. I think it is the 6th WI in the background of the picture. Oh by the way, my USMC MOS was 0331 M60 machine gunner - Semper Fi back at ya.

I already have mine pre-ordered Dave

MOS 2531 Field Radio Operator...I was a forward observer with 1st battalion/tenth Marine regiment out of Lejeune...also served with Alpha battery as well....I'm new to the forums..and fairly new to the hobby...been great reading the posts and learning more about these great soldiers as well as meeting fellow collectors. Setting up diaramas and such has also been a great tool for educating my sons on history.

Really cool your pleased with that set....I think your right about the quality also..as I said..I'm fairly new having only received a few sets in the past from my wife and family for presents. I recently purchased a bunch of the new Britain's items and I was really surprised when I placed them with my other items. They just really look so much better. For some reason the words "neat and crisp" come to mind lol...they just seem to really stand out in their fine detail and clean painting. I'm really impressed.

Dan, in my opinion WB is now making the best ACW figures on the market. The sculpting is great (all done by Ken Osen, a very astute historian and a former ACW re-enactor) and the painting is "crisp". I really like the "Combat" look that they have. If you want to see more photos of WB ACW figures I would invite you to take a look at my ACW photo album - just click on my name whicih will take you to my page - then click on the album cover.

Just a little teaser - more photos coming tomorrow:

General John Reynolds directs the 2nd Wisconsin (1st Corps, 1st Div, 1st Brigade) at Gettysburg, July1, 1863.
