When it comes to the 13th Alabama and 55th North Carolina regiments, are there any identifying markings on the figures? The only thing I can see that identifies one of the figures as from a particular Confederate regiment is the 13th Alabama's flag. So, if I wanted to mix all the other figures, only another First Legion collector would know the difference?

Not a big deal, but just want to make sure I am not missing something.

I do not believe there are any specific corps or division patches which might identify these specific regiments. So if you are wanting to mix the two First Legion releases or use them as "generic" Confederates, there should not be any issue.

I have both and it doesn't matter. Whatever makes you happy. Fellow FL collectors will know the difference because the 55th are marching poses.

All FL ACW figures are great.

Agree with you. I am trying to decide who to get next! But it is hard because they are all so great. It was funny last week I had the intention of only buying 1. But ended up picking up 3! :) Hard to say no!

I had this same question when I first started collecting the ACW figures by First Legion. I spoke to several people including Matt himself and all have the opinion that you can use them for anything. That is what I plan on doing and being a civil war buff myself, I have started to focus on more of the individual soldier during the war. Most of my studies have been with the battles and there are lots of great books out there that goes into the equipment used by the soldier's and such. Wonderful topic!

Concur with the other guys posts the FL NCs & their Alabama boys are practically generic and can be used as such in umpteen set-ups. Also agree with Brad they really are superb figures and will definitely enhance any ACW diorama.

However, Britains ACW series (which improve with every release) are a perfect fit scale wise to place along the FL sets. I use them both in my ACW concoctions..

That is great. I have never seen verification, but the family lore is that I am a descendant of at least 3 people who served in North Carolina regiments (plus one in a Mississippi regiment.) So, this would be something I have a personal connection with in collecting. I haven't found anything that says they served in the 55th, but I will keep on looking!

The figures are generic. The bulk of troops in the ANV had been supplied with new uniforms from the Richmond depot in May and June of 1863,although some soldiers, most notably North Carolina and Georgia troops, did receive some clothing from State stocks. The 13th Alabama figures give a true representation of how a typical Reb unit looked at Gettysburg.Much of their new clothing has faded to a tan colour, although Confederate issue gray, imported blue/gray and trimmed Alabama clothing items are also prominent. There is also a fine selection of soldiers who have stripped off their jackets and are fighting in just shirts and vests (waistcoats). The famous photo set taken at the Rose Farm clearly shows around 30% of the Rebs in shirts and vests. Many caps, both trimmed and untrimmed, are also visible in the ranks, which is quite correct as tens of thousands were issued at the start of the campaign.Altogether a fine set of figures.
