Here are some quick photos I took this morning of how I placed my 6-gun Union artillery battery. I placed them into three 2-gun sections.

Hey Mike,
Did you ever pick up the first W.B. Federal crew? With the new releases, the two universal Artillerman in shirt sleeves and the Federal with worm you would be pretty close to having 4 crews.
We plan on releasing two more new artlleryman that can be used in any position next year too.

If you mean set #17779 Artillery set #1, yes I have it (see second photo). I have pre-ordered two each of the universal artillery men scheduled for September release. I'll use one pair for Federal and I am going to "tweak" the other pair for Reb gunners.

Fantastic Mike, I can see that you are really enjoying you ACW. It shows in your photos!!!! Thanks for sharing them with us, although not what I collect, I do enjoy seeing what you get upto with your collection.

The quoted pic is my favourite, a full out battle and I have set as my desktop pic. Great stuff !!

Great action shots Mike, these two are my favourites:cool:

Cheers

This looks really good. I was wondering how the guns should be set up and this answers my question about how to intersperse Infantry in between the guns. I'll have to look hard for those sold out sets now.

Thank you Scott, Martyn, and AL. My fun continues this morning . . . photos of my corn field soon to appear.

Mike...

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL AN ARTILLERY BATTERY...

that's quite a crew and collection of guns...

gonna be hard to over run that...

You told me earlier this AM that you'd be at play an there's no doubt your a man of your word. Very nicely set up an photographed Mike and thank you my friend for sharing your playtime with us..........The Lt.

Thanks Michael and Joe

During the ACW artillery batteries for the most part were comprised of from 4 to 6 guns. A 6-gun battery was typical for the Union, a 4-gun battery was typical for the Confederacy. Each battery was commanded by a Captain. Each battery was broken down into 2-gun sections. Each section was commanded by a LT. Each gun was manned by 8 crew members, the gunner in charge being an NCO. This is really basic and could differ depending on situation, crew attrition, etc.

I love the wall and road. A group of toy soldier gunners is always impressive! I just got the latest artillery set in the mail and am about to open it. Still watching to acquire the older set.

Thanks and may you have success at finding the other Union artillery set.

Why thank you Joe and you are very welcome. I really enjoyed my day. I am really looking forward in getting together and doing this together. I would like to learn how to enhance my photographs with "added" visual effects and I think you are exactly the tutor I need.

Stunning set up, fantastic piccies (but I now expect nothing less from you Mike)!:D

Mike

I loved your Artillery Set-Up and really admire your ground cover mats and how you give it all the natural look. Each has been a pleasure to behold.

One other great thing you did for me today - you made me check to see where was my New Britains Union Artillery set was ? ~ I then discovered - I NEVER GOT THE ORDER IN ! - OMG !

I had it in the back of my mind that I had ordered the set and NOPE - NO ORDER WAS MADE  - so I took care of that problem today.

SO THANKS FOR ALL YOUR POSTS :D

Thanks Cornwallis - I'll try to live up to your expectations.

Thank you too Ron. I'm glad you got your new Union artillery set ordered - you don't want to miss out on this one.

:) Mike

I better order my yankee gun while I still can. I want to have six Federal and 4 confederate guns eventually, along with the limbers and caissons. Right now, I've only got two rebel guns. The new Britains "Return to Battery", and Conte's Confederate Gun #2 . The Conte set I got on EBAY from the man himself, along with an unpainted pewter crew. I even found the exact shade of blue-gray so when I painted the shell jackets of the crew they matched up pretty well with the Britains. I also have a few resin Conte figures and the Britains Confederate Command set with the flagbearer and officer. It's going to be hard to find enough toy soldiers to fill the crews if you need 80 soldiers for a Union Battery. Even with the new crew members Britains is coming out with, most sets only come with 4 guys. I saw on the Military Miniatures Warehouse site on the drummerboy tab some resin Union Artillery crew members. They cost 19.99 for an unpainted figure so its not a cheap option. I think I'll order one guy and see if I like him.
