Yo Troopers, this has got to be the ultimate for the ACW. A very rare 1985 Chess set by Chas Stadden, dont have it yet its in the post coming by Express 3 day delivery from the USA. Took a huge gamble on this, got an email from a guy in the States to say he had been left this set was I interested (just a bit lol) Didn't know the guy from Adam, so sent a large chunk of cash via one of the Great members on the forum (no names until he says its OK) he then sent the guy a Dollar cheque for me, eternally grateful for his help in buying this set. The main pieces are 90mm, then the Knights & Pawns are 54mm. Took as long as five days to paint one piece in these sets. the Chess set in the box shown weighs 38 pounds:eek: besides being made from solid high grade Pewter the pieces are on Marble Bases, the box measures 27"x22"x6", so you can imagine the postage cost. Anyway fingers crossed hope to put all the photos up later in the week, for now just shown some temporary photos to wet the appetite. Whats that Bob you are coming over for a week;) lol.
Bernard.

BTW the last two photos are taken from a later TKS issue set, not as well painted as the original Chas sets.

Yo Scott, used to play, haven't played for years now, anyone want to come over for a game lol. Should be two pair of white cotton gloves in the box, you are not supposed to touch the paintwork on the pieces, class stuff what;).
Bernard.

Hi Bernard,

Great get, Bernard! Glad everything worked out.:) Our hosts here on the forum helped me pick up the King & Country glossy Napoleonic Chess Set (90mm king & Queen, 70 MM everything else) from a collector I didn't know. When it arrived it instantly became one of the prides of my collection. I was on pins and needles for days until it came. I can only imagine the anticipation of the arrival of this magnificent set must be palpable for you.

I think this is an amazing piece. I love things like this and I am making my own with FL samurai but, nothing like the real thing. A real find and my congrat to you. Enjoy your games. Now we just need a modern manufacturer to do one and Im in.

Yo Louis, many thanks for all your help with this set. Yeh guys Louis helped with the purchase side from Pound Sterling to Dollars the guy being a none collector never heard of Paypal. Being a none K&C man Louis really surprised to hear they made a 90mm & 70mm Chess set of Waterloo, would love to see some photos posted. Chas Stadden also did a Waterloo set man its stunning, only issued 250 sets and each owner got a Chess table with his of her name on a Brass engraved plate. To be honest this was my last choice of the Four Sets Chas made, First choice would have been "The Tower of London", second the "Waterloo" set, third the "American Revolutionary War" set (British on one side) and last the ACW only because its an American War, and know very little about it. But if Chas sculptured it thats good enough for me. Now listen guys dont want to start another civil war over there lol, but usually as the Tower of London set the good guys are on the white bases, so the Rebs must have been the good guys being on the white bases in this set:rolleyes:;)

Bernard,

K&C's was limited to 100 sets, and was made between 1991 and 1993. It is glossy, and came in a wooden box with a certificate (mine is 72 of 100 if I recall correctly). There are photographs of mine on this forum already, Here is a link to the thread where they are depicted (post #136 on the thread): http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3582&page=14

I am glad I could be of help with the transaction to get you that magnificent chess set.

Yo Louis, found the K&C Chess set. Why was it such a low issue for the vast following they have, surely they could have sold a lot more.

Back in June, 1991, when the 100 Chess sets were released, K&C was a very small manufacturer without a tremendous following. The Chess set didn't sell out until the December, 2003 Dealer Dispatches (then sent by fax, I have a copy courtesy of Pam Brunton of Brunton's Barracks). Considering it took more than 2 years to sell out, I imagine 100 was about all K&C could sell back then. Plus, it retailed for $500 in 1991, a pretty steep price for a set from a then relatively unknown manufacturer.

The set is really nice as it covers the whole war with early and late war units and heroes.
