ACW Union 'Red Legs' (2 Viewers)

Back when I was young and powerful, I had the opportunity to see one of John Brown's bibles from the "Bleeding Kansas" period. It had surfaced out of an estate which contained a number of bibles from famous people. The most memorable part, besides the listing of his children, were the pages where he underlined parts of passages in the bible. Most were small phrases and taken out of context. The other eerie part was that the pages were extremely thin compared to the rest of the book with wear lines under the passages. We envisioned him reading those lines over and over using his finger to guide his eyes. It still gives me goose bumps...

A couple of good books about this subject are; "War to the Knife bleeding Kansas 1854-1861" and, "Blackflag". Both by Thomas Goodrich. Not a bunch of revisionist history PC dribble.

Wow, Reb! There is no limit to your knowledge of the Civil War! Thanks for the information, as the Outlaw Josie Wells is one of my all time favorite movies. Just as an aside, my favorite scene in the whole movie is when the Red Legs are trying to cross the river on the ferry, and the Carpet Bagger says "we have something in America called Justice", and Josie Wells, without missing a beat says, "well Mr. Carpet Bagger, we have something around here called a Missouri boat ride" as he shoots out the ferry lines and sends them down the river out of control.:cool:

It was and still is a great movie-a little more useless information for you the author of Gone to Texas- Forrest Carter is a pen name for Asa Carter who was a big cheese in the Ku Klux Klan and chose "Forrest" in memory of Nathan Bedford Forrest his all-time hero from the Civil War.

Few people are aware that he also wrote a sequel "Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales" and fewer still are aware that it was made into a film 10 years after the original called "The Return of Josey Wales" starring and directed by Michael Parks.

Trust me don't bother to track the movie down:D

...Forrest Carter is a pen name for Asa Carter who was a big cheese in the Ku Klux Klan ...

That's OK, we forgive people for their past poor decisions. Even if you were in the Klan, you can still do anything, like become a US Senator, for example.

Prost!

Literally, a Bible he had owned, and not a rifle smuggled into the territory? That's interesting. That was also a nickname given to weapons smuggled into Kansas to arm anti-slavery partisans.

Yes, it was a bible and not a rifle. I was looking for some 35MM photos of the relic when we were examining it but must of tossed the images when I was cleaning out some files. Oh well.

I wonder if King & Country would do early CW figures like "Red Legs" ? or a John Brown ?
