Good Day.
I’m wondering if anyone has picked up the D Day battle set? I’m looking at it but wondering if it’s worthwhile at that price?
cheers

Hi
I don’t get what your asking. It’s the Airfix battle set for D Day 1/72. Runs around $100.00. Sorry if there’s any confusion with my question.

About six months ago, I bought an Italeri WW2 Battle set, 1/72.

We enjoyed painting and building the various items it contained.

Re: Airfix D-Day diorama set

Is that a re-issue of the old diorama set Airfix issued back in the 60s or 70s? It came with a Sherman, 48 (I think) US troops, and a vacuformed diorama base.

It was part of the series of diorama sets they issued back then. There was another D-Day set with a Tiger, and then a Normandy Gun Emplacement set, as well as Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, and Commando Raid sets, all with figures, a vacuformed base, and a model, from Airfix' catalog, or made specially for the series.

Here in the US, they were sold by MPC.

I know that Airfix has been issuing new tooling of their classic airplane kits, but I didn't know that they issued new versions of any of the diorama sets.

Prost!

Hi
It’s the top set. Has anyone picked it up? I don’t want to pickup old style stock that’s up together in a new box. I really like the battle sets that Italeri has put together with the MDF buildings. I’ve order the new one from Italeri but it’s not going to be under the Christmas tree. So looking for other ideas to keep in sane at this trouble time of year.
stay safe everyone.
cheers

Re: Airfix D-Day diorama set

It's definitely not a reissue of the old diorama set that I referred to-though the figures may be the same figures issued back then.

This is the set I mean: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/mpc-2-8005-us-1st-army-at-omaha-beach--181874

I think it's more accurate to refer to the kit nshighlander asked about, as the latest version or iteration of Airfix' diorama kit sets. They've basically taken a bunch of kits and sets of figures, added new kits, and put them together in a new combination. At the Airfix page for this set, I can see the gun emplacement and base from this original diorama set, "Guns of Normandy": https://www.scalemates.com/kits/mpc-2-8051-guns-normandy--181887

Also, we need to note that the Airfix kits are in HO scale, and sometimes listed as 1:76. When placed next to 1/72 scale, you may notice the difference.

Is it worth the MSRP of $79.99? That depends. If nothing else, if the set contains pieces you can't otherwise get, and you want it badly enough, then it's like anything else in our hobby.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed them. The figures and the models can certainly be finished into nice models. You could probably do better with making your own bases, though.

Prost!

Thanks Brad and everyone else for the information.
Thats what I was looking for. I checked YouTube also. So I think I’m going to pass on this set. I’ll look for something else now.
stay safe and again thanks for the information.
