Nothing Denotes the two figures you mentioned as being Waffen SS as Waffen SS. They have no defined collar markings/emblems for this nor do they have any kit specifically issued to the Waffen SS so they are equally suited as Wehrmacht. On a side note they do however have winter gear on (their pants).GERMAN WINTER SET
Fig#1 GREATCOAT RUNNING with MP-40 = Good and useful running figure well sculpted.
Fig#2 GREATCOAT RUNNING with RIFLE = Kind of redundant, could have chosen something just a little more needed but well sculpted.
A PRONE figure would have been a more thoughtful choice perhaps?
Fig#3 WAFF SS KNEELING with BINOCULARS & STG-44 = Cool looking figure, useful, helps round off the SS set. Well sculpted.
Some camo smocks would be proof that they are SS.
Fig#4 WAFF SS KNEELING with GRENADE & RIFLE = Kneeling doing????????? Is that a plug arm? Can I pose him to THROW the grenade?!
UNINSPIRED pose, the weakest if the batch but well sculpted.
Well, the 4 new winter Germans are an "Add-On" set.
Two for the Long coat Germans & two for the Elite SS set.
So YES, they were meant to be, SS.

If they are Germans, fine. If they are SS I won't touch them.
The elite German set is called just that the Elite German set (never in its title is Waffen SS mentioned). Heer panzer grenadiers were elite troops (Panzer lehr, Grossdeutchland , Feldernhalle etc were all considered especially elite) please refer to my previous post explaining why the only two figures ( the mounted ones) can truly be considered Waffen SS from this set. The rest are Heer. The add on set has two figured that are supposed to add to this set but they too look to be wearing Heer winter uniforms (look at the pants I say!!!!!). Camo smocks, helmet covers, and zeltbahns were all heavily utilized by heer truppen. So again not Waffen SS figures.
I don't think that's the point anyone is trying to make. The point I was trying to make was that the set is not marketed as Waffen SS and with that being said there is no kit on them to denote them as SS as some collectors don't like to buy Waffen SS figures. I personally do buy them/convert figures to be them since I wargame in 1/32 scale but that's beside the point. The point is calling them Waffen SS when they aren't marketed as such and don't necessarily have all the kit to be called such can hurt sales of the set based on misrepresentation.FINE!
From now on, ALL German figures wearing CAMOUFLAGE SMOCKS & SS pattern helmet covers, are NOT SS, they are the "HEER".
YES, the regular infantry wore SMOCKS, HELMET COVERS and WINTER PANTS, BUT SO DID the WAFFEN SS!
"ELITE GERMANS" (wearing smocks and helmet covers accompanied by two SS Calvary men) is a politically correct way, of selling winter WAFFEN SS figures!
I say, "the glass is half full"
