all quiet on the HB front (1 Viewer)

I would really like to see an American Halftrtack with a mounted howitzer on it's backside, complete with crew. As for the Brits, a Sherman firefly, to deliver a counter punch to that beautiful custom Tiger!

Sounds good to me,i'd also love to see an M7 Priest.:)

You know...there is nothing stopping us from discussing ideas and possibilities.

What do you think?

Frank

Hi Frank,

I am thinking of dedicating units that i respect in ww2, so far i had done the Leibstandarte with my Wittmann's Tiger 1.:)

I am thinking my next project is Panzerkorps Feldherrnhalle.

Any suggestions Frank?

My best guess is that the next "new" HB release will be a King Tiger or Panzer IV. At the higher prices they probably will go conservative and focus on proven sellers. My request would be for a Russian JS-2. No one has done that beast (arguably the best tank of WWII but let's not get into that discussion) and it might have the aesthetics to appeal to more than just our hardy band of eastern front enthusiasts.

Now even though i don't collect from that theatre (apart from the T34)that is a Tank i'd buy, very cool. What size gun is that?

Rob

Yes, the Firefly is definitely right up there for me although I'm going to need all you guys to help me select the customization.

For the Tiger II I would like to do:

  • Tiger 100 1./s.SS.Pz.Abt.503 on May 3 1945 near the underground railroad station at Potsdam Berlin. This has a late war factory scheme.
  • Tiger 222 2./s.SS.Pz.Abt.501 during operation "Wacht am Rhein". This is Kurt Sowa's mount and is the tank in that famous Bulge picture with Fallschirmjagers riding on a Tiger II. Again this is a late war factory scheme

In both cases the tanks have a Henschel turret and no zimmerit. There are also some possibilities for whitewashed Tiger IIs serving in Operation "Konrad I/II/III" that interest me.

For the Panther Ausf.G some possibilities include:

  • Panther 211 2./SS-Panzerregiment 1 (Kampfgruppe Peiper) during operation "Wacht am Rhein". This tank has a classic factory scheme appllied by M.A.N.
  • Panther 215 2./SS-Panzerregiment 1 (Kampfgruppe Peiper) during operation "Wacht am Rhein". This tank has the ambush style dot camo applied by Daimler-Benz
  • Panther 80 of 9.Pz-Div during operation Wacht am Rhein. This tank has the M.N.H factory scheme of diagonal stripes and is quite striking.

For the Tiger I (early) some possibilities include:

  • Tiger 332 3./s.H.Pz.Abt.503 in the area of Kharkov May-June 1943. This tiger has the classic German grey overall.
  • Tiger 822 8./s.SS.Pz.Rgt.2 "Das Reich" in the area of Kharkov march 1943. This tank has whitewash over grey.

I would also like to do a Kursk Tiger but I have yet to settle on one there. These Tigers for the most part had green camouflage applied over the base dunkelgelb.

Nasir,

I think Panzerkorps Feldherrnhalle is a very interesting subject. The corps wasn't created until March 1945 although you have the option to do the division as well. For me the most interesting unit would be s.H.Pz.Abt.FHH which is basically the former s.H.Pz.Abt.503 (503rd heavy tank battaliion). I think the Hungarian theatre offers interesting possibilities.

i agree with Combat here.

At the higher prices, i dont think the Russian tanks will be in much demand, however fantastic they were.

As K&C's fantastic battle of berlin line has shown, the Russians don't sell well.

But a King Tiger would be some consolation!:D

frank,

for the King Tiger this is exactly what i had in mind, especially if the fallschirmjagers are also available!:D

second choice will be Joachim Peiper's King Tiger 008 also during operation "Wacht am Rhein"

i hope i can discipline myself, coz i wont rule out instinctively ordering both!

I'd love to see a whitewhased Tiger from the Bulge theatre.I seem to remember someone on here had painted K&C's version and it looked superb. As was said above a winter Panther would also be most welcome.

Oh man, the IS/JS2 is a must have but it would have to have the big DShk antiaircraft machinegun.

Oh I plan to get more than one. :)

The befehl (command) tanks are cool but due visible differences (i.e. 3 antenas / mounts) I am going to steer clear unless HB can add these as an option.

Yes, I like the mounted MG. My understanding is that it was often removed in urban situations because of the risk of becoming hooked on overhanging wires. One interesting note is that the JS 2 has a rear facing MG built into the turret. You can see it on the pictures that I posted.

Interesting picture of the JS-2 with anti-"heat" shields to defend from anti-tank weapons. Also the iconic image from Berlin.

I feel sorry for the german tank hunters (panzerjager) squads trying to stop this beast.

it must have taken a direct panzershreck hit to the rear (not easy as the JS-2 has a rear MG gun!) or multiple panzerfaust hits to stop 1 of this beast.

Imagine facing a whole battalion of JS-2!

The Panzerfaust was a wicked weapon. My understanding is that it could penetrate the turret of any Soviet tank including the JS-2 and T34. The difficulty would be getting in range and hitting the target in the midst of russian infantry and MG fire from the tank.
