Am I not normal ? (1 Viewer)

I reckon as long as no-one gives you a wedgie then you are OK:):)
Damian

What in the name of the wee man is a wedgie Damian?

I do tend to agree with Wellington though. If you're in what can at times be be a high-pressure type job, then the best stress buster I have ever known is collecting Toy Soldiers.

Cheers

Once you tell them the cost you will never here the end of it!

Bill: You know michael spends 180 bucks on those things!

Michael: Actually it's twenty

Bill: Same thing!

Harry
You are a real Scotsman and you wear a kilt. So you don't have to worry about wedgies

Personally my friends dont make fun of me or say how weird my hobby is because every one has different hobbies. I guess in my view no is normal and thats what makes everyone so great, well most everyone. Also your brothers probably just jealous of you some how, does he have any hobbies.

Wellington--You say you are a Police Officer? Forgive my characteristic American ignorance of Canada--are you in the RCMP, by chance?

Late as usual, but well, had to say something... Well, my family tolerates and mostly understands my hobby, but sometimes I do get complaints on time on the Internet and money spent on toy soldiers. Also I've been in situations where you get the smiles ( sending a «model tank» at the post office or meeting a collector/seller at a fellow lawyer's office under the smiling looks from the local secretary...). I guess you have to accept that there are a lot of people out there who are not prepared to understand our hobby, or anything which is different from their own narrowness, for that matter. With these ones there just is no point in explaining the hobby to them, you'll be wasting your time, and time is too precious to waste on nerds...:D. But there are also others who understand, who have an eye for colour, art, miniature, history, culture. This hobby is not for everyone, that's for sure. But when you see the serious sums it involves, at auction houses, manufacturing companies, etc., you know that smart people understand, even if they don't collect. Bottom line is, I think, do what you like and just use your common sense, socially speaking. Unfortunately, nerds are a fact of life, you just have to live with them the best you can, and certainly we'll find them or hear from them in much more serious situations than toy soldier collecting. We're normal all right, and probably better than them ( well, possibly...:D ).

Happy collecting,
Paulo

I just found out a month ago that someone at my job collects toy soldiers. We talk a little bit because he has the evening shift but he collects traditional figures but is slowly getting into King and Country. I thought that was pretty cool.

Hi,most of the lads at work, know i collect toy soldiers, most of them watch and play Rugby,i can watch the sport but thats about it!Anyway probably each week i get a delivery,it gets delivered to work,so i normally check it in my office, and normally leave out of the box(i draw the line at making explosion or machine gun noises whilst at work),most take an interest, most love matte figures, but tend not to like the gloss, anyway they sometimes pull my leg but i just usually ask them how their team went on over the weekend that usually shuts then up:D One thing that usually surprises them is the cost and that really does raise a laugh or a sharp intake of air ,but i say its probably what they spend on beer/clothes/shoes in a month(not that i don't mind a beer or two),its all subjective, life's too short:)
PS don't tell em about my doll collection (Action man,Dragon) because whether i like or not thats what they are:eek:

Normal; whats normal?
People that are into toy soldiers are normal; just look at my family.........well OK were a bunch of weirdo's......not me but the rest of the Nevilles!:D

Steve,

As I think I've mentioned elsewhere, I am involved in a high-stress industry and can be, at times, responsible for successful completion of multi-million US$ contracts - the successful completion of which can, and does, result in repeat and indeed new business. That's not a boast or BS - its a simple fact. Most people at our office in Dubai know I collect Toy Soldiers. When word first got out, a few people tried to take the pi$$, although they were told to "go away" PDQ. I understand there's still a bit of whispering and giggling going on behind my back - cos I'm supposed to live in a - "MANS WORLD" - (whatever that means).
Want to know something mate? I honestly couldn't care less. Collecting Toy Soldiers has been the best stress-buster I've ever known and I really wish I'd discovered the hobby long before I started to get seriously involved in it sometime during 2004. In point of fact, its a wonderful hobby. Its something me and my wife take a lot of pleasure out of particitating in together - and its just brilliant that I can share my hobby with some of the fantastic characters on this forum.
I like a few beers myself, and rugby, and football, and the occasional naughty joke - very few us don't do we? But if the guys at work (or the pub, or anywhere else for that matter) can't see the sheer enjoyment we get out of our hobby, then.....hey man.....It's their loss. Not yours or mine. :):):)

Best Regards

It's not something I hide at work. Initially, there was abit of p*ss taking, but when they saw the way the industry has moved on in terms of quality, most were quite interested.

Still some people try and poke fun if they don't know me that well, but I tend to find this only happens the once.

Here's the last couple that thought they'd try and take the p*ss.

I love my job soooo much. :)
