American Civil War Series (1 Viewer)

Oh darn it Mike, you're right......That kind of pokes a hole in my ''focus on 1st Manassas'' theory. - Ken :(

I don't really think so. All of John's recent artist renderings of his future ACW offerings are all units that were engaged at Bull Run in July 1861. I am currently planning to acquire these as they are released as a 1st Bull Run/Manassas collection. I just don't plan on collecting the SC Zouaves.

Roy, I really don't have an answer for that. Troiani is known for doing his research, so maybe he came across some info that others have not, or made a judgement call an a vaguely written historical document. Jackson was known to wear a rather worn blue fatigue cap early in the war, but not the style shown in this painting. He is presented wearing a field officer's frock coat of the ''Old Army'', which is a fact well documented. Other artists, Keith Rocco and Mort Kunsler portray him wearing the fatigue cap at 1st Manassas.

I'm an artist myself, with about 90% of my paintings being of historical subject matter. I find enjoyment, and take pride in doing proper research.
That being said, I'd be very happy to have the figure of Jackson at Bull Run just as John sketched him. - Ken
Many thanks Ken - I value your opinion :salute:: For sure it will be a fine figure as it is - just curious, I've always loved the Troiani picture - quite iconic.

Yes, I like that idea. Good display possiblities. Jackson and the 4th Virginia's ''stonewall'' on Henry House Hill, and Stuart's 1st Virginia Cav. crashing into Ellsworth's Fire Zouaves -sans Ellsworth of course.

Thanks Roy, I'm a great admirer of Troiani's as well. - Ken

If John is doing the first battle of Bull Run, might he also eventually do the Louisiana Tigers, who fought so fiercely in that battle; and with the correct blue jackets instead of the more popular brown?

First Manassas/Bull Run is a fantastic theme for the Civil War period. So many interesting and unusual uniforms used by both sides.

I love artworks related to ACW, can't go past a Trioni or Kuntstler. I have many books featuring the work of these guys and just read them over and over
