American Horror Story Hotel a reminder for Doug (1 Viewer)

watched American Horror Story...Season 9...1984...last night...

really disappointed...
your typical pop culture camp slasher movie that has been done so many times before...
absolutely nothing original here...
looks like they mailed in the story...the same old story I have seen before...
the only difference in this and Jason...is that the killer jingles his keys and collects ears...
the characters are corny...the script is predictable...just no effort to come up with something new...
mediocre shock value...to none at all...
I doubt I will watch another episode...
but if you like spin offs on slasher movies...with dumb teens...
this might be your movie...
this might appeal to the generations that grew up without Friday the 13th...40 years ago...
it's just too predictable to watch...
really disappointed...

Sounds like I'll like it.^&grin .I usually give something a couple episodes.

I taped it to avoid all the commercials and haven't watched yet. The premise sounds right up my alley though. I really enjoyed those 80s slasher films like F13th. For some reason, they stopped making them even though horror movies are huge box office.

I watched the first episode. It certainly was a homage to the 80s slasher films. In fact some of plot lines are taken straight from those films like the killer's escape from the mental asylum. That was directly out of Halloween. If you watch this tongue-in-check it is a lot better than watching it as a straight horror show. All the stuff about the aerobics is a bit overdone. That was tiresome. Oddly enough, I was in LA during the time period for this show. I started at USC in 1983 and the campus was a disaster because they were upgrading and building for the 1984 summer Olympics.

And of course in "Homage" the maniac is the usual Vietnam veteran once or twice removed,,,Welcome home boys it aint over yet,,the movies need you

I thought it was ok.All of the AHS seasons has an offbeat sense of humor to them.

I liked it, this sort of thing is right in my wheelhouse as Doug mentioned, I like how characters are introduced from past seasons as well.

The soundtrack is good too, I'm 100% in...……..

That was a quite a (white) wedding in episode two. I have the feeling they won't be able to return those tuxes.

So now we have the night stalker showing up at the camp, so dueling serial killers?

And a ghost who keeps getting bumped off?

Not what I expected, I thought the kids would show up at the camp before the action started; I guess not.

Yes, they put a little twist on the old slasher films with the ghost and night stalker. The night stalker was in a prior season as well.

BTW: anyone come across a TV program about Charles Manson's funeral? On Reelz or something like that. Man, I've seen a lot of tasteless TV but that one took the cake. A bunch of loons mourning old Charlie. Close ups of CM in his coffin. They even showed them cremating him. It was brutal. So tasteless that I had to watch.

Not sure if I like the night stalker/ghost angle...………….will keep watching to see how it plays out, looks like the kids never make it to the camp then...…………….

Ok, the twists and turns in this one are good, not going to lie, this gets better by the episode...………….

As a confirmed horror fan, I never object to violence or gore but have to admit that using a real life serial killer and even glamorizing him is not in good taste. I was in LA when Ramirez was on his rampage. There was nothing glamorous about that guy. But now he is a pop culture icon. Can only imagine what the relatives of his victims think about this show. Oh well. At least the music is good.

I never knew he had the ability to heal himself; you learn something new everyday.

More twists and turns last night; Mr Jingles isn't who he thinks he is, the camp owner isn't who we think she is, on and on it goes...…………….poor Mr Jingles, man did he get used and abused………..

The only thing that I find comical about this so far is it's been basically the same day/night for four strait episodes, everything that has happened is on the night before the camp reopens...………..I love how no one is who them appear to be, so many twists and turns so far, I am enjoying this version very much, not a lot of characters from previous versions, we'll see how this one plays out...……..

Ok, so the action at the camp is over from what it appears...……..not sure I like the "people who got bumped off are now ghosts"...……………...ghosts that apparently kill people too.

The Night Stalker and Mr Jingles have formed a nice little friendship, we'll see what sort of mayhem they can get into in LA...…………….we're at the halfway point, 5 down, 5 to go.

I'm still enjoying it but always liked those 80s horror films. The actor playing the Night Stalker is a dead ringer except for the horrible teeth of the real one (fixed at taxpayer expense after his arrest). It's helpful not to think too much during a show like this but it does give me some angst that they are portraying a real life serial killer as some type of hip, sex symbol. Oh well. The Halloween episode is shaping up as a real blood bath with a Jingles vs Night Stalker throw down with Billy Idol rocking in the background.

Surprised to see Dylan Mcdermott from Season one back in the cast. I thought he did a good job in season one. Hopefully, he will be just as good this season
