America's Version of the Napoleonics (1 Viewer)

I collect them Michael! Just have a few more sets to catch up with.... I love them I think john did some very nice figures for this series. I dont believe I will be adding to many multiples due to other things to buy.

In John's New Releases for May announcement he states that ; BCH-03 will be the final regular line infantry set for the 1st Royal Scots Regiment.

Do you think that means just the center companies and there might be more grenadiers & light company?

I'll hate to see the Royal Scots sets come to an end. I hope John will at least add on a set of NCOs attempting to keep order in the ranks as the casualties mount.

We know John's done NCO sets for the British in his F&I War series, so hopefully he'll do the same with 1812.

He had talked to me about closing the Royal Scot's infantry line just last week...he felt he had given us quite a few sets and also felt it was pretty complete...he however did mention he might do a sergeant and a mounted officer for the BCH's...I had asked about a marching set...he indicated if he did it...it would be for the 8th Foot or 100th Foot...but the cost of the intricate flags from the factory was making it prohibitive...he is considering do a marching set for the 8th...but I'm unclear on what his definitive answer was...I know this for a fact...he has a lot of surprises coming and this series is way far from complete...John is going to be giving a lot of attention to Chippewa for a while...I'm very anxious to get my artillery crews started on both sides and am also very happy that I chose this to be my main collection...

Thanks for the info Mike, hope John desides to do the sergeant & mounted officer for the Royal Scots. I guess we can use an NCO for the U.S. troops as well.

I think he is leaning to do both of them...I really hope we get a marching set though...I think it's such a versatile pose...action or idle...:)

Those ARE regulars, by God !!!!!

Nice one Michael.

Thank you Scott...Ken...Dragoon...

Dragoon...yes...I love that quote...

"At first, Riall was under the impression that the American line was composed of grey-clad militia troops, whom the professional British soldiers held in much contempt. He expected the poorly trained soldiers to fall back in disarray after the first few volleys. As the American line continued to hold steady under British artillery fire, Riall realized his error and supposedly exclaimed his famous phrase.................

"Those are regulars, by God".

The battle of Chippawa, and the subsequent Battle of Lundy's Lane, proved that American regular units could hold their own against British regulars if properly trained and well led. It is generally considered that Riall, although misled as to the strength of the American forces and their quality advanced overconfidently, and his mistaken tactics led to the heavy British casualties.

The 25th Infantry was later combined with the 27th, 29th and 37th Infantry Regiments to form the 6th Infantry Regiment. The 6th Infantry's motto is "Regulars, by God" from this battle.

The Corps of Cadets of the United States Military Academy at West Point wear grey parade uniforms, but the assertion that they were adopted in commemoration of Scott’s troops at Chippawa appears to be a legend. The reasons given in 1816 for its selection were simply that it wore well and was considerably cheaper than the blue one.

Well another myth debunked.Thanks Mike.:D

Mark...your post is the last line in my previous post...myth solved...

concerning the famous quote...

"Those are Regulars by God"...

there might have been a little embellishment there also...

(Scott appears to be the only source for Riall’s utterance; there is no record of it in any British source.)

but it makes a good read...so I say leave both myths in history...:D

Hi Michael,

I think john should consider rewarding you for this amazing JJ 1812 promotion campaign:p

At least you've got me persuaded, and I have now added this line to my Monongahela, Snowshoes and Jacobites JJ collections, having recieved my first Royal Scots yesterday, and going for a US set next:)
