Well gentlemen...the time has come to welcome the

Shores of Tripoli

From the Halls of Montezuma…to the SHORES OF TRIPOLI!

When the United States of America gained independence from Great Britain there was an unexpected problem - piracy. Removed from the protection of the British navy, US ships were prize targets for pirates across the seven seas. In 1783, the same year that the Treaty of Paris was signed, corsairs from the Barbary States began to attack American shipping in the Mediterranean. At first, the US paid tribute, to the tune of $2 million by 1801, but it was not enough. The corsairs demanded more, and the fledgling US took a stand. The new president, Thomas Jefferson, made a bold move. He refused further payment. On May 14, 1801, the Pasha of Tripoli ordered the flag staff (flying the 'Stars and Stripes') standing in front of the US consulate to be cut down. This symbolic act was taken as a declaration of war against America.

On October 31, 1803, the US frigate Philadelphia, while on patrol against Barbary ships, ran aground on a reef near the Tripoli harbour. Captured by Tripolitan gunboats, the frigate was floated free and taken into port. Captain William Bainbridge and the ship's 307 crewmembers were imprisoned and held for ransom.

The United States responded with William Eaton, Marine Lt. Presley O’Bannon, seven marines, and 400 mercenaries, including Europeans (mainly Greeks), Arab cavalry, Turks, and a caravan of camels. The expedition began near Alexandria, Egypt and covered 500 miles across the desert to the outpost city of Derna, Tripoli.

Once at Derna, the US Marines undertook the first land engagement outside the American continent, storming the harbor defenses at bayonet point and planting the Stars and Stripes on foreign soil.

The ‘Shores of Tripoli’ series takes us to the harbor of Derna, with the US Marines and exotic mercenaries overwhelming the pirates who would dare stand in the way of this new nation.

The ‘Shores of Tripoli’ series, made by Honour Bound exclusively for Treefrog Treasures, will consist of 24 figures, including US Marines, Greeks, and Barbary Pirates (including a mounted officer).

Re: New Honour Bound Line

Right now we're giving a sneak peek of some of the figures in the range...in about a week we'll have a whole grouping of 16 ready to show you! At that time we will announce the two sets that will be released first. We will follow the HB schedule of 2 sets released at a time.

So...on to the pictures of (R to L) a Barbary Pirate, a Greek Mercenary, William Eaton, and a US Marine.

Now that sounds like an original and fascinating line of toysoldiers. I look forward to the images.

Re: New Honour Bound Line

So....well done PolarBear - you hit the nail on the head right away.

Re: New Honour Bound Line

These look very neat and fantastic. You dealers and manufacturers are killing us (or is that we ) collectors :(

Re: New Honour Bound Line

I must say those are really great looking and unique figures. Well done for coming up with such an original line of figures.

Re: New Honour Bound Line

In an attempt to focus my collecting habits I came up with the idea of only collecting eras and lines that have an African connection. So AZW, SUdan, WWII in North Africa, Crusades, Ancient Egypt. Who would have thought it, but Tripoli is in Africa.:D:D

Peter, you are da MAN. What a great time period to model. I love the figures and for sure will be getting them. NICE :D:D:D:D:D

Very cool and daring line. It's nice to see someone take a chance on something unusual. It has paid off for John Jenkins. Best of luck Ana and everyone at Treefrog.

Ahh another gap in my Marine Corps collection filled. Thanks Peter

Can we expect Montezuma some time down the line??

Never satisfied are we Peter?;)

Good luck, it is a very interesting period to cover.Hope to see some daring American naval captains if this goes well.

Is this the first time you have had figures that are only sold at Treefrog?I know Kings X has done it,Has anybody else?I think it's a pretty neat concept to have your own line.Oh yeah I forgot about the Crimea line at KCUK.

Very interesting line and the photos really look beautiful.
The best thing for me, beside an interesting subject, is the announced edition of 24 figures. That is a number to live with, calculate, and adjust to the budget and it makes for a great complete collection.
Congratulations to TF and HB for such a fine addition to the Collector's World.

This is the first time we've jumped in with a whole exclusive line. A few years back Figarti made a special edition Honey tank for us, but that was more of a one off.

I'm excited about this series because it's so unique. Where else do you find US Marines, Greeks, and Pirates all in one scene!?

Count me in, I will do it slowly (as if I don't collect enough lines!!!!!), but I cant resist Pirates, that is just my thing.
