Andy's Talk at 2012 West Coaster (1 Viewer)

Dear Steven:

Thanks for the information given out by Andy at the 2012 "West Coaster" show.

"Iron Brigade"

Steven...thanks for the details of the conversation...it's interesting to learn the intricacies and arrangements made to produce these figures...apparently it's a lot more strategic and detailed than I ever suspected...appreciate the intel and update...it's nice to know a little of the direction and reasons for some of their decisions...

There's lots of AFVs that have not been made at all and a few made long ago that could be updated.

Off the top of my head.

FoB - Suoma, Matilda, Pz. 35(T), Pz. 38(T)

W. Europe - Sturmtiger, Sturmpanzer, Wespe, Marder I, II and III, Nashorn, 21 varieties of SdKfz 251, 12 varieties of SdKfz 2XX armored cars, 4 0r 5 Flakpanzers, updated long barrel Pz. IV

Ausf. - many variations of Ausf. that look different. Could be done 250 X 3 basis

The Churchill could be redone and there are several Churchill and Sherman funnies.

I know there are lots of passionate WWII guys out there, but do you not think that maybe the market is a bit saturated with WWII stuff right now.

I also don't understand how they are running out of western front ideas. But I'm glad they are as I prefer the eastern front. Andy, for a decent commission you can hire me to give you ideas. I have a lot.

Thing is mate its one of those interests that grabs you by the wotsits and doesn't let go (as do many areas of History I imagine). There is ALWAYS something else I'd like to add, figures, artillery,AFV,planes. Its a very enjoyable self perpetuating addiction!^&grin:wink2:

Guys,I also wouldn't pronounce the death of the Western front just yet :wink2::wink2: (maybe one of those Shermans may be for the Western front too?) Sometimes ranges are rested for some period of time whilst K&C do other things, they then come back fresher and ready to go again after a break.Look at the FOB range, went quiet for some considerable time and then bang! We get Bomb Disposal Tillys with figures shot down ME109 and figures etc. Andy has often said on here that series get rested, and on top of this I don't think any company makes all their ranges every single month, sometimes we just have to accept that our particular range isn't being made right now, show some patience and hope it comes round again.

It's just that us colonial collectors seem to be getting spoilt right now but not really by K and C.
Things wan and wane.
WWII seems to have been a sure fire winner for a long time now and it was not always that way so I was just wondering?
We will have to wait and see.

Steven,

Thanks so much for going through the trouble of sharing with us all such an interesting summary of Andy's presentation during the Westcoaster. This is certainly much appreciated by all, but even more by a few of us, who have no TS dealers, let alone shows & fairs, at all even remotely close...

Steven - thank you for taking the time to post. The sharing of information from these events helps our dreamtime visions. Was there any discussion about the future directions for Crusaders, Berlin '38 or WWII North Africa?

I am sure he has a hard enough time keeping up with all the good ideas he gets for free^&grin

Thanks for the info Steven. Odd that Andy said "no" to Romans since the recent dispatch included 2 mounted Roman auxs. Did he specify if he would still produce Romans for the LOJ range or just flat out no to any more being produced?

Interesting that Andy is feeling "burned out" by the action in the West. He has done a great job producing men and vehicles but there are still subjects that could be covered in K&C's unique style;

US field artillery - he did a "cold weather" 105 but these guns saw service in every division in every weather. He still hasn't done a US 155mm howitzer (standard item in all "leg" infantry divisions). We haven't ever seen the lightweight 105, the M3, that was used in regimental cannon companies and later in some battalions of the airborne divisions. The heavy guns, the 155 gun ("long tom"), the 8" howitzer, the 8" gun, etc. haven't been done by K&C.

US Antitank artillery - There is the 57mm gun for the regular infantry, or the British 6-pounder on airborne carriage for the airborne divisions. We had a 57mm with paratroopers early in the "DD" range, but it could use a remake. The US 3' AT gun (towed tank destroyer) was used all through the war in Europe. An M36 tank destroyer with 90mm gun would be a good fit for the Battle of the Bulge line. Even the US 90mm AAA gun could be done positioned for ground support (not as commonly used as the German 88, but it was used).

I know that Andy gets awfully tired of Shermans, but there are a number of variants that he hasn't done - M4 (the original type with 1944 upgrades), the M4A3E2 "Jumbo" assault tank, M32 recovery vehicle, and so on.

The Germans had one of their 105mm howitzers done for Africa, but I don't recall one for Europe, also the German heavy mortars were hated by the GIs and Tommies and we haven't seen them for a while.

I don't recall anybody yet doing the US paratroopers in the M1943 uniforms as used in Holland and the Bulge.

Personally I would like to see a few more staff officers, British and American, plus other aides,to go with the Eisenhower command car.

It's nice to see Andy keepming the creative juices flowing with other ranges, but I hope he doesn't give up on Northwest Europe.

Dear any of my TF brethren who were at the talk, did Andy mention anything about the future of K&C American Revolution during the talk? :)

Thanks for the report Steven. I appreciate you taking the time to inform us. John

No one asked any questions regarding these themes so there was no discussion. WWII North Africa was indirectly discussed in connection with the new Desert Tomahawk and why that paint variant was picked.:)

The question actually mentioned the Roman Auxillaries as a preface to why K&C was not regularly adding to its old Roman line. Andy said there would be Roman additions to the LOJ line but decision was made to do an Ancient Greek theme rather than do a Roman one.:)
