Heart of the South Soldier Show
Saturday September 12 @ 09:00AM -3:00PM

Local ordinances for Mask use and Distancing will be observed.

VFD Community Center
7128 Columbia Pike
Annandale, Virginia 22003 United States

The Show is back and on the schedule! Virginia is in Phase 3, so we are ready to go. Treefrog Treasures is scheduled to attend, contact Julie if you want anything specific special ordered before the show. Masks will be mandatory and social distancing will be enforced. With a little patience, it should be a pleasant way to get out of the house safely and see what treasures you can find!

Common sense will ensure show success during the current situation we are in.

Eddie couldn't hold out any longer, huh?

I'll be curious to hear what the attendance is like.

Prost!

So far he has had a lot of people inquire, hopefully they come out. It is a place that if fairly open with higher ceilings. You can do the show in an hour, so it should be a quick pace. I guess it will depend on people's comfort. I will be there in mask and gloves with signs on my table that say - DO NOT TOUCH, SOMEONE CAN ASSIST YOU IF NECESSARY!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news!...see you there!

I don’t live in the area but I hope that the following procedures are observed:

1. Masks are required. Not suggested but required.

2. Everyone’s temperature is taken before they’re allowed in.

3. There is a limit on the amount of people allowed in the room at any one time.

If those procedures aren’t observed, I wouldn’t go in.

Hi Brad,

1. Definite, it is monitored by the fire hall (they have to regarding regulations

2. Good question - I am not sure of VA rules

3. Yes - governed by ordinance. The show generally attracts a total of 125 - 200 max paid attendees. All not there at one time historically. I always have figured there are 50 plus at any given time. Again, very high ceilings, wide aisles, plenty of space, easy to distance IMO. VA Rules are 50% Capacity up to 250 at any one time. I don't think that will be an issue to stay under the max.

Tom, my wife go to estate sales on the weekends (I’m usually looking for LPs) and everyone requires masks. There is a variation on the last two. If we see a place is too crowded we avoid it. Not worth the risk.

Some places have a sign that you enter at your own risk (assumption of the risk), implying they have no liability if you get sick. Eddie may want to do the same.

Yeah, the last sentence is very true. I do believe he had to do something different with show insurance due to COVID. One good thing here is the Fire Company has done a few Card Shows as well as Bingo events without issue. The Masks are mandatory and I understand there will be procedure in place to monitor the crowd size.

End of day, it will be interesting for sure as first one I am going to in the middle of this mess. I plan on being very careful, again , gloves, mask and No Touching. Just can't do it any other way right now. I am sure there will be some who will get PO'd at my rules, but already have the signs done up and I am sticking to it!

Yeah, I used to go, years ago. It's a relatively easy drive from the Valley, but it's also a 4-hour drive, and I'm not as willing to do that for such a small show as I used to be. A cousin of mine used to live in Woodbridge, which is not far from Annandale, and I could stay at her house. But she moved to North Carolina.

I do believe that the fear is balanced by the increasing desire a lot of people have to get out and do things again. But given the age of most collectors, there are probably more for whom their age and vulnerability weigh heavier than the desire to get out.

Prost!

I’d probably be more worried about the sellers than the buyers as the latter will be in and out fairly quickly.

Good point. They fit that description, too-that most of them are in the most vulnerable group.

Prost!

I think folks just need to use common sense and if you are comfortable and not uber at risk, you will probably be fine. It is an easy show for me to do as it is 1hr from my house without traffic, so Logan and I will be there. If I sell something, great, but to get out for a bit and look at toy soldiers, that will be fun for me.

What I wont be doing (and apologies in advance if anybody thinks I am being rude!) is having long personal conversations in close quarters (there will be time for that later), finger touching every item (again, that will be a no no), Not wearing a mask (Duh, everyone will have one on OR no entry), Close Quarters (NO, social distancing will be a must)..

While a lot of this is a pain, it is easy. It is easy to wear a mask, easy to use sanitizer, easy to wash your hands, easy to respect others personal space, easy to obey the rules.

Again, personally, it will be nice to see a show again and the rules are not only common sense, but easy to follow.

End of day, it should be interesting!

Personally, I think this whole COVID thing has been blown way out of proportion.

Just be smart and aware of your surroundings, dress accordingly and you'll be fine.

Just to be clear, hugging Tom will be strictly verboten!

There was a photo in the paper today of someone working out in a gym wearing a gas mask.
