Hi friends, anyone on the forum think that FL should add another WWII line in 2011?

No, more Napoleonic troops. :)

Sorry, but I personal would rather see a new Napoleonic line.

Maybe Matt will do both.

I,ve got to admit I would rather see more naps or a venture into the
crimea . WW2 just seems so well covered these days .

Well most guys know my answer....YYYEEESSSS!!!! I really want First Legion to do a western front style theme for WWII please please, I know aot of companies are doing WWII but First Legions WWII is totally different in alot of ways, so hoping we'll get a test run like the Africa corps is getting...Sammy

Me two :) What Battle would you like to see get coverage next ?? .. Hows that French Line looking my friend ? All the best Gebhard

I would like to see the Stalingrad Series/ Eastern Front "developed fully" before venturing into another WWII line....We all are aware of the dangers of doing battle on 2 Fronts....

"Certain Aspects" of WWII are well covered, but nowhere near what they should be! Missing is
-Italian Campaign

-Early Blitzkrieg years ie- Poland and France invasion

-Late War Eastern Front ie - Berlin, Budaphest, Vienna

How could they do another WW2
When Blucher and the Landwehr infantry is not here yet
Matt never forget ur Flagship

Totally agree with this point; Stalingrad has a lot more potential yet to be tapped, finish that battle first, continue with the flagship range, Napoleonics, and keep adding Crusaders and all will be well...............

I agree for the most part it is certain theatres and vehicles revisited
many times , but I cant help but feel their is such a huge gap in the
marketplace for conflicts outside ww2 , to me personally with the high
quality of painting and sculpting with first legion they just seem to fit
with more colourfull uniforms of earlier periods of history.

WWII is popular so, any venture to another campaign would be welcome

I'm all for finishing the Stalingrad series as well, but just like the Africa corps on the side is doing would be a welcomed site, kinda like a sample of things to come, you can't tell me a few G.I.s wouldn't be great to see!!...Sammy

If First Legion ever does Western front or after Stalingrad move onto another Battle on the Eastern Front that Waffen SS units were involved in , That would be very interesting to see . The multinational forces of the Waffen SS would provide First Legion with a chance to really show what they can do , I can only imagine what they could do with the variety of camo patterns used . Matt has already stated that they will never produce parade figures but I'm sure the Waffen SS would be highly successful for them . Gebhard

This is a tough decision for me. While I do think that WW2 has plenty of companies and lines dedicated to it, I would like to see some WW2 Americans as well. To have some 30th Division GIs to honor my grandfather's unit would be great. However, I do also like how First Legion puts some of thier effort into periods that are not often done, like the Samurai, AWI or even some of the minor Napoleonic nations. I would hate to lose any of that variety because FL delves deeper into a conflict that is already close to overdone.

Noah,
I fully agree with your point that there are several conflicts that are already way overdone and I'd say the WWII western front has been done almost to death . But consider this before First Legion came on the scene there had never bee a topic more over done in Toy Soldier History then Napoleonics ;) and look what they have been able to produce . Using the winning formula of well done research , beautiful sculpting and painting at a almost connoisseur level , add to all this the choice by First Legion to do not just the same old same old and you have IMO Napoleonics that are the highlight of are serious Napoleonic collection . I have no reason to think that with First Legion just doing what they do and doing it to a topic so done as The Western Front or Waffen SS units that the end result would be the same...:) giving fans of these topics something totally new . There is just so much not covered that screams for First Legions talents even in the over done topics . Of course new topics also would be nice :D All the best my friend Gebhard

Gebhard, you have a very valid point. First Legion has breathed new life into ranges or time periods that are 'overdone' by normal standards. As you note, the quality of First Legion allows them to produce ranges that are like nothing else. I guess maybe I am worried about my own budget getting spread too thin on a second range!

Noah

As has already been noted, everything First Legion releases is being done in a new style and to a new standard so in my opinion it doesn't matter what they do. It is fresh and offers choice to the collector.

My main WWII interest is the Eastern Front but I am also interested in Northwest Europe, Italy and North Africa so as time moves on I'm sure there will be a steady supply of FL figures and sets on my want list.

I recently finished reading Mark Zuehlke's book "Ortona: Canada's Epic World War II Battle" which got me thinking about the Italian campaign. Italy might be a good choice as it is a range that features a wide variety of allied and axis forces and it hasn't been done to same extent as Northwest Europe.

Battle of Stalingrad and Eastern Front Battles of WWII are an area of WWII that no other manufacturers are doing except for First Legion.....I think there is still much interesting subject matter to be addressed in the Stalingrad Line.... Especially I like the fact that First Legion has "kept their focus"on the topic chosen....It adds continuity to my collection and collection strategy.....Personally I'm a little tired of other manufacturers who "churn out" WWII subjects hap-hazardly, lacking quality and realism... and then HIP-HOP from subject to subject....never allowing a "comprehensive definitive collection" to be acquired......If First Legion eventually branches into other areas of WWII, I hope it will be with the same "focus on topic" that they have done with the Stalingrad Series.....This is just one of many reasons I am fully turning my focus towards the First Legion Style of Collecting.

I don't collect WWII, but just my 2 cents worth, First Legion has already given a nod towards North Africa. It opens up a whole realm of possibilities. Germans, British, Italians, French, Commonwealth, and down the line Americans.
Equipment can be done that hasn't been done before, or not done in depth.

Gebhard, you have a very valid point.

Noah ,
I learned a phrase the other day " even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while " I think that would apply here :D
I understand what you are saying about spreading yourself too thin , I'm dying to see what new lines First Legion will roll out in the new year . I'm both excited and scared at the same time  as there is still so much I need to purchase with current lines .
I'm still fighting in the Barrikady and there are still years worth of things to produce to keep me interested :D . Although I can fully understand why collectors of other fronts are dying for them to move west .
Whatever they do they do it BIG , and stay there till its done right . I'm very glad they don't leave me hanging and hoping the will revisit a collection I'm committed to , that would suck . Of course that's just one of the many reasons my money and time are being spent here . Best Regards Gebhard
