I grew up in the 1950's-1960's and always loved the late 60's muscle cars. I bought a brand new SS396/375HP Chevelle in 1969 for the princely sum of $3630 back then.{eek3}. And no, I no longer have it.{sm2}

However tomorrow at noon I am picking up a Shelby GT 500 with 550HP and this one I intend to keep!:tongue:

I needed something to drive until my Camaro comes in.........the wife is just a little
Hot!{eek3}

John...

I am sooooooooooo jealous...

about age 14...I started dreaming about American muscle cars...

I was a total Mopar nut...

I wanted anything with a hemi...a 440...a 383...a 340-pack...

Cudas...Dusters...Challengers...Roadrunners...Chargers...

Chysler...Dodge...Plymouth...

never realized my dreams in my early youth...

my first car was a Mercury Comet...hahaha...

hardly Mopar...my parents were tough about it...

I can't believe they finally let me buy a motorcycle when I was 15...

I had a couple of Vettes later in life...

even looked hard at the Challenger RT a couple of years ago...

I'm soooooooooooooo jealous of you...don't you wish you still had that Chevelle...what did it weigh 3,000 with all those horses...OMG!!!

it was all engine...

have fun buddy...

John...

here's a site you might enjoy...your 396 is way up there on that list...

....... ........ .......... ........

Wow Mike that's a great site! I think my old Chevelle came in 18th not to shabby.

The Shelby GT 500 turns the quarter in 12.8! I can't believe they are putting 550 HP in a street legal vehicle!

The 2011 Challanger with the 392 Hemi (limited production) has 470, that's not to shabby either, but they are tough to find.{eek3}

My Camaro (when it arrives) turns the quarter in 12.9 with 426HP......I just need to keep the wife out of them!:tongue:

Here are a couple of shots I took in the showroom with my phone. Engine is really something.

Its going to be difficult sleeping tonight!^&grin

Great looking car. And the engine makes me dream ...

I love Dodge! Would love to get a Challenger or Charger but unfortunately Dodge is not selling these great cars here in Europe :mad:

Please let us know all the details after your first drive ...

Oliver

A Camaro man. Me too. Or I used to be, anyway.:redface2: My first car was a '68 Camaro convertible. It was not a muscle car but it was a goody. The only thing under the hood was an engine (the old reliable 327), a battery and alternator. It was a dream to work on. I open a hood today and it looks like a jig-saw puzzle. I also had a 1986 Camaro which was a beautiful car. Kept each car for 11 years. Had to get rid of the '86 when my kids started collecting tickets and the insurance went up! Both of those cars were reliable and were my favorite cars. Everything else I ever drove was a family truckster.^&grin Njja,that new Camaro looks like you will be loving life. Awaiting a road test report. -- Al

I will be happy to give a full report. Shelby GT500's are difficult to find, and you can't take them for a test ride since it will be the only one a dealer has if you can find one.

I know it's going to be great fun.:)

The Camaro's are available for test rides, and an excellent buy for the money about 10K less then the 392 Hemi Challanger, and the Shelby. The Camaro 2SS puts out 426HP and turns the 1/4 mile in 12.9 which is terrific!

It's yet another Golden Age for Detroit Muscle........while it lasts! With gas heading for $4 a gallon!::wink2:

When I derosed from the military in July '68 and got back to Brooklyn, all my close friends and most of the neighborhood had every conceivable muscle car made. So, I went the other route. Bought a Triumph TR-250 Convertable... British Racing Green with a silver stripe across the hood, black interior, 6-cylinder engine and huge Goodyear radials... Needless to say, best summer of my life girl wise...

Picked up Shelby a little after noon today after I rented a garage to park it in!:tongue:

It is really something! It has a voice activated system which allows you to make calls, get directions, find movies, places to eat, cheapest gas, tune the radio.......I don't expect to figure it all out for quite some time......if ever.

Now to the serious stuff! Fit and finish of car is first rate! I was able to drive off into yet another rainy New Jersey day with minimal coaching. Car was ready, with a full tank of gas, car cover, and all items on invoice present and accounted for. Dealer gets an A!

Car is everything I expected, comfortable, great sound, and easy to drive and handle. I only have 58 miles on it so I have not pushed it yet, but you can feel the power in each of it's 6 gears. I expect the 550 HP to be a real animal if pushed.

Even though you can't take one of these for a test ride, I will report it is everything you would expect, and could hope for!

What a ride!

I can't wait for the Camaro to arrive.......at least now I have something to drive!:)

Very nice work on both vehicles.

I think I would feel slightly safer at speed in Cobra:tongue:

I know this car you bought...if your not aware already "DO NOT" attempt to take traction control off and think your going to successfully dump the clutch and do it old school...you'll learn real quick what beyond sideways is...or worse stacked!^&grin

I like Australian Muscle cars from the late 60's and early 70's FORD Australia did some great ones.

Does this one qualify? A copy I once owned for a while - but got fed up of emptying my pocket each time I took it out! johnnybach
