Any news on new figures? (1 Viewer)

Conte started out with such a bang! I bought almost all of their ACW and Medieval sets. Over time, however,
they either over-extended themselves, lost interest or lacked funding to stay a viable maker.
Now I am afraid they are "irrelevant" in the toy soldier market and just continue to frustrate loyal collectors with
snippets of false hope. Why not just come out with an honest assesment of where they are going or if they intend
to stay in the business at all.
With so many wonderful makers providing the hobby with consistent releases and quality products there is just no
need for a "Conte". Let them rest in peace and be remembered for what they were and could have been.

I only collect the Zulu War figures and am about 6 short, looks like they are going to be rare in the future, so will try to get before they become unavailable.

It is frustrating. I also only collect the Zulu series and have held off buying WB as I've been awaiting the new releases which have been on the website for about a year but don't seem to be any nearer being available to buy......

I have all of Conte's plastic Zulu sets, did not buy any of the Zulu metal sets and I have a Spartan set. I doubt if they will be back in full force, maybe a set here or there.

They did start out with a bang, I hope they make it back to being a regular producer of toy soldiers.

When I started out collecting large figures I collected only Conte,I liked them that much but the time it takes them to get a range out now is just ridiculous.I don't think I would start a range with them now.

In reference to Conte, I think the phrase "dead in the water" applies here.

Received the latest from RC and thought I'd pass it along..........The Lt.

Hi Joe Thanks for your email. I'm glad to hear you are doing well. It's good to catch up.I'm attaching a couple of photos of a huge new Norman range which we've been quietly working on to go with our equally large additions to our Viking range. This time around we are focusing on action, charges, hand to hand combat and such in place of the Viking raid scenarios we did a number of years back. I think there are about 20 Normans in the pics. I plan to at long last fully conquer England and bring it out of the dark ages. The Normans and Vikings have always been one of my favorite periods and i've decided its high time I properly address this period . With the success of the Vikings television show I know we have loads of interest from fellow collectors. There are probably 10 or so additional Normans completed which I'll try to get some photos of in the next few days. I'll also try to get the 30 + Zulu War figures photographed as well as the 40 or so Romans/Barbarians and the extensive additions ( I think about 45 figures) to the Afghan War Gordon Highlander range.Sorry for being a tad hard to get ahold of but its been a tough year for us losing both Nancy's Dad and a grandchild...and our Retriever...Throw in personal surgery , some medical issues, having to be in California a good chunk of time supporting family, etc. etc etc., family reunion, wedding, etc.... ... and my non toy soldier consulting biz keeping me very very busy , its been difficult to keep on schedule with the toy soldiers. While they are my labor of love they've sadly had to take a back seat to all the personal stuff the past 12-18 months and probably til the end of the year as we relocate some family and so on.You'll see from these and the photos to follow that despite the horrible distractions and losses, we've been sculpting and readying a horde of new figures for the above mentioned ranges plus Foreign Legion, Earps/Clantons, Robin Hood, the "Non-Vikings" and of course more Civil War. We are working on scores of paint masters now and I'm hopeful that by the time I return from several trips we'll be able to wow you with whats in store. My grandfather always used to tell me that 'into each life a little rain must fall'. After this years veritable monsoon, I at last understand what he meant!Feel free to share this with anyone who's concerned about us as you see fit. I hope you'll understand why I haven't broadcast this stuff .Kind regards RC

Lt - you are back with a Bang! This is great news. I am in the market for a Viking range, Conte would do it just right. I'd also like a few more Zulus. I'm very keen for Conte to have a steady year in 2014, featuring with regular releases of these great ranges and updates to his web page. It will do a lot to win back the fans.

Sad to here all the bad news of Conte's family so that explains alot. One thing about his Norman/Viking ranges is that he puts them together.I don't recall any battle between them as both of them usually fight the Saxons.I know both had numerous enemies but not each other.Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. The most important thing I want to say though is welcome back Joe,you were missed.

I found a list of post 1066 raids. Surely there were others that weren't recorded.

England (1069, Vikings defeated)
England (1075, last major Danish invasion of Britain)
Hebrides (1095)
Ulster (1103, Vikings defeated)
East Coast of England raided, but Vikings driven off (1153)
Largs, Scotland (1263)

I was reading that email from Conte and a pig just flew by!

As we have discussed, any concerns are never about the quality of the figures, scale or painting. It is always about release times. I hope for your sake that Conte is conservative, yet very precise, in his estimates and that he maps out a clear release schedule and just methodically moves through them. The figures look good which you would think is 80 percent of the battle won.

Neither had I!!! It did seem unlikely though that the last event was Stamford Bridge. Surely these later incursions were of a more modest nature too.

Must confess to knowing nothing about the company and never having purchased anything from them, but I always thought their ACW figures looked very good indeed, especially the casualty sets^&cool Hope you Conte fans gets lots of new sets in the future.

Thanks for posting the update Joe. I know it's been a difficult time for Richard and Nancy recently. Life wouldn't be the same without some new Conte figures for the collection.
