Fully realise that most of you K&C collectors posting on these threads are WWII fanatics with the exception of Capitolron who is up to his neck in Naps so my humble apologies for having the audacity in posting a 19th century query. But my question is genuine, going back over at least 50 of the K&C threads I haven't found a single post referring to the superb figures in "Remember the Alamo" series.

I ask for two reasons: If nobody collects them (well nobody is discussing them on this forum) why is Andy releasing some additional figures to the series? And secondly I'm seriously considering investing in some of them as they are without doubt absolutely outstanding character figures and would make a superb dio of, for example, the final stand at the north wall.

Over the years I have picked up a few of the Conte Alamo Mexican sets, haven't done anything with them, I just liked the colorful uniforms and poses and just wondered how they would stack up against these stunning K&C figures.

Now I know only too well that this thread will completely disappear/die by the end of the day, smothered by Tiger fumes and trampled by marching Germans and Arnhem Paratroopers but I would really appreciate a couple of your opinions or views on the series if indeed any of you have any and before the AV's start up their motors for the day.

Now the Alamo figures would look just great next to the upcomming Tiger tank from K and C. Juts kidding the Alamo stuff is great. I think that set of the Death of Jim Bowie is really good. I suspect and I may be wrong but at the big dio of the Alamo that is up in the K and C shop in Texas there are some Conte Mexicans lurking to make up the numbers. Some one did post some great pictures of the stor dio about a year ago. I would try and check that one out.

You are right. I visited Kings-X in March and there were many Conte Alamo figures in the big dio. I think that they will be replaced as K&C release more and more figures. Alamo figures are a big seller there since the Alamo is only a block away. If you walk around the San Antonio area you will see that K&C set up some smaller dioramas in glass cases. I found two, one in a hotel and one in shopping mall.

I started collecting them. The Alamo figures are superb and a good price deal. The first Mexican infantry release are the only K&C figures under $20.

A comment to Reb. The Treefrog K&C collectors are not a full representation of the entire K&C buying world. I know Egypt and Streets of Old Hong Kong are big sellers, but are owned by a small minority on this forum.

I have started collecting this range and it is really outstanding. I have only collected the Texans so far. I haven't gotten to the Mexicans yet, but I will. I have the Alamo Facade plus 6 defenders to date displayed in my curio here at work. When people come into my office, they usually look over my curio and just about everytime I hear the words " The Alamo". I highly recommend this range if you have any interest in the period.

I don't collect this series but I think they are outstanding and when the most recent series was introduced at the West Coaster earlier this year, they received rave reviews here, especially from collectors such as Louis Cortez. Also, the people who frequent this Forum don't necessarily represent a composite cross section of the hobby. They may but I don't know if that is the case.

Andy is probably releasing them because of his flagship store in Texas, Kings X. I don't know if he would restarted the series if he had not purchased this store. I'm sure they're very popular in Texas and I'll bet they do well with the tourists. If I were to visit San Antonio, I can't imagine not leaving San Antonio without a couple of them.
 
It is just that some eras are a bit obscure take the Napoleonic era for instance.....:)

UK Reb - I am sorry I am trying to figure out which Napoleonic Battle was "the Alamo" ? Is that in Spain or Prussia ??

Acutally, fighting off the urge to buy these guys has been very hard - I try not to look at them too long for fear of giving in.

I agree with everyone that these figures are some of Andy's best stuff (after Napoleonics of course ;) ) and the new releases have been very exciting.

It was a great part of American History - just ask any Texan :rolleyes:

Appreciate all of your comments and views they have been most helpful and I think I will invest in a few of the sets. Look out for a dio sometime downstream

Now I'd better get the hell off of this thread quick as I'm sure I can hear those tanks coming:D

Don't leave the thread Reb!.You know there are people on the forum who think we WW2 collectors can't string a Sherman sentence together without Tiger mentioning a long boring Cromwell list of Churchill tanks......D'oh!!!!:eek::D

Seriously though i look forward to your Alamo dio in the future.I must warn you though if it starts me wanting to collect Alamo figures i'll hold you responsible!;)

Although I don't collect them (as yet), I did mention in a response to Apachejole (apologies for spelling) just a few days ago something along the lines of what a good range this appears to be. There are certain ranges I desperately don't want to get into, WWI, Barbarians, AWI & ACW for example, but this is simply for financial reasons - not because I don't like them.
Yes, this forum is dominated by WWII fans. That's okay, they pay the money just the same as anyone else - and I happen to have quite a few sets of WWII figures & AFV's myself. But that doesn't mean that the small number of us here that are also interested in other era's don't have a voice.
Reb, your threads pick up a respectable amount of hits as does my non-WWII threads. Yes, I agree, if I post a thread about, say building a WWII Winter diorama as I have in the past - then I get overrun with plaudits (and very nice it is too). If I then post some nonsense with, for example, a witch and some dragons the plaudits dry up, apart from "The Honourable Company of Usual Suspects" - thanks guys. But that's just the way it is on this forum - and at least I'm not overrun with negative "How dare you post stuff like that here you evil blathsphemer...:mad::mad:".
As someone else responded, (forget who, cos I'm supposed to be working right now), SOHK and Egypt are huge in the wider collecting community - I don't know if this is true but I'm prepared to accept it given that these ranges are dynamic in the sense that there are regular additions and retirements.
So what do we fans of non-WWII era's on this forum do..?? Do we run off and sulk..?? Or do we carry on like you and I, Randy and a few others do and continue to post our photos of different ranges - in the hope that we're showing other people that there are alternatives..??

I really like them as well....the only reason why I have stayed away from this series is because of funds and room otherwise I would be all over them like the British were all over the French at Waterloo......As far as I am concerned they are EXCELLENT and worth every penny....

Mmmmm alternatives?.Oh i get what Harry means,if you don't like Normandy theres always North Africa,Arnhem,Bulge,Berlin,Iwo Jima;):D

Seriously though theres room for all tastes on this forum.As a WW2 collector whose soldiers are normally clad in grey or green i love to come on here and see pics of all the more colourful eras including Naps,Egyptian,Crusaders and ACW.Its the variety of subjects that make this hobby so interesting in my opinion.

Actually thats what makes K&C so great or anyother company for that matter we are all different and thus have different tastes...if we all collected the same it would be boring......if I was rich I would collect ALL of the ranges as I'm sure we all would..but....we are forced to choose an era...at least thats my story...I have a very small collection of Egypt stuff...only because it was different and I loved the topic..

Im not realy a K&C collector as i prefer to paint the figures myself but i do like there Alamo range there Texans look great so i may add a couple of them just to add more variety after all cant have all the defenders looking the same :cool:

I was in San Antonio 2 weeks ago and it was very difficult leaving there without some Alamo figures. I can't get into a new range....too costly. I think the figures are great, wish I could get them all.....:)

Kings X store was very cool. People were really nice and they had some very cool displays.
