Any support for Falklands War figures amongst British Collectors? (2 Viewers)

"Old Bill" - thank you for spreading the campaign for Falkland Islands 1982 figures. I also have the two Corgi figures (both based on illustrations in the Osprey Book on Uniforms of the Land Forces) and the Britains "Elite" Series figures. I also have the 1/32 Airfix plastic "Modern British Infantry" which can serve as 5th Brigade troops - certainly the variety of uniforms on the British side I thought would be attractive to collectors. The AFVs used on the islands were Scorpions (excluding the RM's BARV Centurions) - so models should come in at the lower end of vehicle pricing. Anyway I'll keep on hoping that Andy's RM roots might eventually persuade K & C to give it a go - someday! Keep up the campaign!

Hi Graycap,

You are welcome :salute::

I’m afraid I am a little late in joining your Falklands “campaign” – (If memory serves me right I believe you have posted in the past about the possibility of a TS series for the Falklands War)

It is only fairly recently I have come to realise just what an enormous feat of arms was achieved by the British forces in the Falklands. (I am currently reading the second paperback edition of Ricky Phillips’s “The First Casualty” – riveting stuff. Can’t put it down.)

In 1982 we sat every night with bated breath watching the latest news from the Falklands on TV. I believe The “Harrier” for a long time after, was as much in the Nation’s psyche as the “Spitfire” – “I counted them all out………….”

Didn’t realise at the time just how far out on a limb our forces were {eek3}

This is why I would now welcome a TS series on the conflict. – (I must add in my original post I was a little dismissive of the three Britains Falklands figures :eek: I take it back……. I have just picked up the Royal Marines Commando – a very nice figure – Much better looking than the photo’s I had seen would have you believe.

Roy.

Could Airfix's 1/32 modern German soldiers pass for Argentinians?

Hi Benjamin - I'm afraid I'm no great exoert on their uniforms :eek: but they do look me as though they could indeed pass for Argentinians :salute::

It's a shame the "big" TS manufacturers have not shown an interest in the conflict - JJD said a definite no and K&C a "maybe - ish" at some point possibly..... etc. BUT...… watch this space...…… they're not the only show in town {sm4}

I hope some brand will make this range. I think K&C could handle it very well, due to the fact that IDF figures are very similar (apart from the winter equipment) to the "Argies". Most of the equipment was of IDF origin. More difficult, and not cheap would be to reproduce British camo design...

Yes - I'm sure K&C could handle it very well but I can't see any of the big manufacturers ever doing it.

I do understand why (only my opinion and certainly not wishing to upset anyone) - most TS product is aimed specifically at American/New Zealand/Australian/Canadian collectors - which is where the money is - fair enough.
The Falkands War is perceived (rightly as per responses) as being of no interest to those markets as their forces were not involved. Ergo - not much money to be made. Also of course it was held reasonably recent (ish) not so historical maybe.

Like the Falklands war itself - I guess the Brits will have to do it themselves :wink2:

I wonder if Bruce at R4a would do the Falklands conflict, especially if a gofund campaign was started for that project.

Hi Benjamin - Bruce is already working on a project for me ^&grin I saw your posts of the excellent commissions he has done for you - and I thought ahh........... :salute::

Just heard from Bruce about your set. Looking forward to seeing the final product! Thanks for your kind comments, Bruce makes a great products.
Best wishes,

Well - thought I would just comment on this old thread I started to bring it up to date :)

Excellent news to hear K&C have announced a forthcoming Falklands War series. I will eat humble pie, as I commented on here that I thought a major TS company would never be interested - for the reasons posted earlier. Nice one K&C :salute::

I was hoping to post some news here of my own TS wise, but nothing to report so far. Hopefully soon :)

A very big supporter for a Falklands TS series (long before myself) is Graycap. I have not seen any response from him regarding the K&C announcement. (Which I thought he would have jumped on) I have tried a personal message but received no reply. I am hoping he is OK - does anyone know?

Finishing off with a pic of my small collection of Falklands War books - all recommended - especially "The First Casualty."

If you have not I would also read Vulcan 607 [ that crew had balls of steel], also by Rowland White.
SEA HARRIER Over the Falklands, Sharkey Ward
SCRAM - H Benson
Spearhead Assault - J Geddes

K&C should cover it. They are the best at Modern Wars. And lots of other stuff, too!
They did IDF, Vietnam, even Afghanistan. Oh yeah, & WW2...
Sure others make great modern stuff - love our FL Nam & others' WW2 sets, but K&C always does great work in 20th-Cent+ fields.
Korean War competition? Anyway that's for the suggestions thread.
I am very interested to see K&C's Falklands range. Vehicles are always a K&C treat. Aircraft even more. And we do have a friend in Buenos Aries. He was against it, but is interested in the conflict.
As a person who believes that the British Commonwealth should be an Empire including what it does as a Commonwealth plus the US and maybe parts of the rest of the World, I hope to see UK military history fully explored. From Celts to now.
Best Wishes all & Andy, kudos for keeping up the good work through everything!

Thanks Pat, I’m looking forward to where we will go with ‘The Falklands War’ series...There is no shortage of possibilities...Watch thi space and...All the best,
Andy.

Has anyone added that WBRITAIN did a Para and a Royal Marine that would fit this terriotory. Also AIRFIX did 1/32 scale Modern Brit injury which could be a great start for some conversions. I think the same brand did modern German or "NATO" troops Which might fit the bill for Red Force.

Yes - they have been mentioned in this thread. (W Britain also did a Gurkha) :) I also posted a photo of the W Britain Para in this thread and photo's of the two Corgi "Forward March" Falklands War figures in the opening post.

Joining in with Robin's eager anticipation :salute:: (on the K&C pages) of the forthcoming K&C Falklands range :) Here is my 1/72 Corgi "Battle Scarred" finish 809 Squadron Harrier - flying low {sm2}
I am hoping K&C will consider doing a 1.30 scale version of a Falklands Harrier - with standing pilot and ground crew................ of course ^&grin

Some info for anyone interested in The Falklands War in a little more detail (on Facebook) :

"Each year We create a Timeline - Chronology of the events of the Conflict on a day by day basis, using real video footage pictures, illustrations and detailed reports starting on the 39th Anniversary of The Argentine Invasion of The Falkland Islands a British overseas Sovereign Territory on the 2nd of April 1982 right up until the Argentine Surrender on the 14th of June 1982"
