Guys,
Monday sees me flying out of Heathrow to spend a couple of weeks vacation on your West Coast. LA/San Diego/Phoenix/Las Vegas/San Francisco. Although I'll be doing the usual touristy things such as Grand Canyon/John Ford Country (Monument Valley) Yosemite etc I will be in the afore-mentioned cities for a few days each and while my good-lady attempts to meltdown my credit cards in your Malls I would like to seek out any worthwhile Toy Soldier retailers either in the area or within driving distance to make a few purchases myself to add to the collection and save on the usual stiff UK Custom duties.

Have travelled quite extensively on your East Coast and Deep South but this will be my first trip West so I am not familair with the territory therefore any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks guys.

There's two I know of an have visited on my first trip to the West Coastand both in San Diego one's The Old Toy Soldier Home and the other's The Toy Soldiers of San Diego two must visit shops.....The Lt.

Cheers UKReb:

Have a wonderful trip! In Northern California specifically Los Gatos (south of San Francisco area close to Santa Clara & Stanford) there is Sierra Toy Soldier Company where you should find the "Kilted Vampire". Phoenix is home to the infamous diorama aficionado Build-A-Rama. As posted earlier, the Old Toy Soldier Home (Vista area just north of San Diego proper) is a mandatory visit as is the "King of Plastics." Let me know if you need any more specifics.

I can tell you that there is no toy soldier shops in San Francisco and the closest shop is Sierra Toy Solider, which is about an hour south of San Francisco.:)

There is also Bill Muessing's Toy Troops in Huntington Beach (Orange County). It is right off the 405 FWY at Beach Blvd (I think).

We here at Treefrog are a mere 2000 miles from San Francisco...

We're west of ... the majority of toy soldier dealers!

Guys
Many many thanks for all your suggestions I'll definitely give the San Diego shops a look up on my way down to Arizona.

Vamp according to my "planned schedule" we leave Vegas to drive to Frisco arriving Thursday 08/18 (got to be there then as I have booked the Alcatraz evening trip) Check into the Courtyard by Marriott on Second Street SF for four nights until we fly out evening of 08/22. So I will definitely look you up either the Friday or Saturday following arrival.

Thanks again guys much appreciated and am kinda looking forward to it even though I guess I won't get to see too many ACW battlefields out West

Bob,

I'm attempting to arrange for my office to send me to London, UK, for a work-related conference at the same time as the 1 Dec show. While I'm there, I would like to check the toy soldier shops for old and new figures. Can you give me a run down of the London shops?

Since I don't get to Treefrog that much, maybe a list exists somewhere?

If you do an internet search, you should be able to find some. Also, a year or so ago, Toy Soldier Magazine did an article about London toy soldier shops.

I go to London on business about twice a week and the shops that I have found so far are: Tradition of London, The Armoury of St. James, The Guards Toy Soldier Centre and I belive that Hamleys stock toy soldiers as well. These all stock new figures of various makes.

I hope this helps.

London soldier/antique shops

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check all these.

Does anyone know any antique or markets that for older figures? I have been told about "Camden Arch" that has an antique market but I don't know where it is or what figures or manufacturres would be there.

Also, what about militaria shops, maybe they might carry soldiers?

If you can get yourself over to Paris, check out the flea market over at Marche aux Puces at Porte de Clignancourt. Here's a link to the Marche aux Puces web site. It's very easy to get to by Metro. I remember being in a couple of military shops.

In London, don't also forget Portobello Road. Check out this site for a guide to London markets.

Hugh.

I'll dig a bit deeper for you and try to find out about some of the dealers selling old figures. Brad is right about Portobello Road, I'm sure there are stalls there selling figures. I have just remembered about STEPHEN NAEGEL - TOY SOLDIERS, but can't find any info about him....sorry.

As regards directions I can send you the directions/map etc when you have a short list.

Would anybody be willing to scan and post this? Would be a help for anybody else going to London.

Thanks for all the advice on London and Paris soldier shops. Will have to check Portobello road and the other suggestions.

I heard Stephen Naegel no longer has his shop but sells from home. I don't have a link or ebay lD.

Interesting about Paris, unfortunately, probably won't be able to get over there but good to keep in mind.
