I had a few good chats with Andy. I didn't ask about Arnhem, and while he brought up a few topics, he didn't mention Arnhem. But he knows I focus on North Afrika, D-Day/WS and FoB - and of course the long awaited eastern front. So him not mentioning Arnhem to me really doesn't mean much.

Anything interesting on North Africa?

Any hints about a possible eastern front series?

Hint yes. Eastern Front series No. Nothing is planned for the Eastern Front and certainly not Russian AFVs.

However, the Polish soldier figure from the K&C Dinner makes me wonder if we will see some Polish Fields of Battle figures, cavalry, trucks and armour.

While I have tested the waters of the FOB line with a few French Items I would dive head first if K&C decided to expand into the 1939 Polish Campaign. A truly untapped reservoir of possibilities. Does anyone have a pictures of the figure that was given out?

Scott if you want info on the Arnhem figures then Capitalron would be a reliable source.:eek::)

Polish Campaign 1939 range would be a real winner,Pz1s and 2s manned with early panzerwaffe bereted troops being attacked by Polish Lancers,6 rads and bands of motorcycle/sidecar recce troops accompanied by 8 rads and Sdfkz 222s being engaged by tiny Polish Tankettes and Polish Cavalry,New German Cavalry figures charging Polish Infantry, whats not to like and own ? come to think of it why hasnt this range been done ?

The Poles had more than tankettes. The 7TP light tank was an upgraded Vickers 6-ton (Mk.E) tank with a more powerful diesel engine, 37 mm Bofors wz. 37 anti-tank gun and a bit thicker armour (17 mm instead of 13 mm), together with other modifications and additions (Gundlach tank periscope, different air conditioning system and a radio). These tanks were much superior to the Panzer I and Panzer II which were the bulk of the German tank force in 1939. Unfortunately, they had only about 120 of the 7TP.

Terry,

Are there accounts of how these particular tanks fared against their German counterparts?

In combat, the Bofors wz. 37 anti-tank gun used in the 7TP was able to penetrate the armour of any of the German tanks including the Panzer IV and was vulnerable to only the Panzer III and some anti-tank guns at close range. Unfortunately it was too lightly armoured against aerial bombardment Stukas).

The 1st Light Tank Battalion (49tanks) fought in the battles of Przedbórz, Sulejów, Inowłódz, Odrzywół and Drzewica and for a time stopped the German advance in the centre of the Polish line. Part of the battalion was destroyed in the Battle of Głowaczów, The battalion then fought at Józefów and formed part of the spearhead of the Polish units trying to break through to Lwów and the Romanian Bridgehead. After the Battle of Tomaszów Lubelski, the remaining tanks were destroyed by their crews and the unit surrendered to the Germans.

The 2nd Light Tank Battalion (49 tanks) lead the Polish counter-assault on Piotrków, but the attack failed and the unit suffered heavy losses. On September 15 it took part in the Battle of Włodawa, but suffered heavy losses from Stukas The remaining tanks were destroyed by the crews due to lack of fuel.

Of approximately 98 tanks, only 18 were destroyed in several days of heavy combat, and many of these by Stukas. 20 were captured by the Germans. 40 were abandoned due to engine problems and lack of fuel and destroyed by their crews. 20 were withdrawn to Romania and Hungary.

I'd say they fared pretty well against the Panzers. If the Poles had 200 of the 7TPs, adequate fuel and some air cover, Hitler might have lost. The polish light tanks did way better against the Panzers than did the medium and heavy French tanks in France.
