Both choices are fully funded by the US Army so you are one of the lucky young graduates who will have no school debt to start off your career.
Good answers on both accounts.
Coincidentally I have two good friends whose sons each went to Dartmouth and West Point. The West Point graduate left the military and now has a career in finance.
The Dartmouth graduate went to law school and works for the government. The West Point graduate told me that the education was excellent but he found the politics and mentality of the student body to be somewhat rigid. He thinks he missed out on a more diversified student body with ecclectic ideologies to debate and study.

Hope this helps a little in your decision.

Thanks everyone for the answers! Nysoldiers- this answer is very helpful- many thanks!

Dear Sandor,

I hope that the advice given by the forum members will be of help in your big decision. It must be through your hard work and determination that you are in this priviliged position of having two excellent options to choose from. If some comments in my previous post were off-track, I apologise for overlooking that you have undergone pre-candidate assessment for appointment to West Point USMA. You come across as a bright young man with a focus in life. I am sure that you will be a success in whichever option you decide upon.

All the Best, Raymond. :)

Dartmouth
West Point has no girls wearing short skirts.
Interacting with pretty girls is the education that will
benefit you your entire life.

Jack,
No idea what GPA is but they did teach us how to shoot people. I think at that time the policy was
shoot to wound. The good news is I was such a bad shot if I aimed for your arm I would hit you in
centre of your chest.
Brett

Interesting - Martin and Sandor gave this threat of violence a 'like'! Am I really that unpopular?{sm2}

Well Jack you can console yourself that if Brett were shooting at you, like most people who've gotten to know you, he'd be wanting to kill you, so you'd end up just being wounded! It'd give the two of you a lot to talk about next time you went into his shop.

Jack,
What is even worse is that you also liked it :salute:: So does that make you unpopular with yourself ?^&grin

As for being popular I recently discovered something quite shocking and I was so shocked I did not look further. It involved looking a some members profiles and noting how many had looked at them. You would be quite happy with the result:salute:: Perhaps it is not a sign of popularity but more like a "Who is this guy ?". Was interesting. If you divide by number of months person has been a member my shock is quite understandable. Now guys don't all go rushing to my profile at once {sm4}

Yes - I am often worried that there will be a bunch of guys in Brett's shop standing around with nothing to say!{sm4}

People are just impressed with my grammar. Their interest is understandable. They should also drop by your website - infractions.com - for your discussion of 'Answers to questions no one asked'. {sm4}{sm4}

Jack,
Infractions.com, very good. However I was thinking more of a team effort called Infractions R Us. Brad has already offered to sell subscriptions.

However I will have you know I have not been infracted upon for the whole of this month. I was going to set up new web page called Goody Two Shoes but believe it or not somebody beat me to it (no really, there is such a page).

We seem to be getting off subject. Weren't we talking about the girls at Dartmouth ?

I am now an august member of this club. However, I hold a very unique position, being (I'm sure) the only member who has both given one and received one.

Certainly a unique claim. However unfortunately, for reasons that defy comprehension, TF has turned down my many applications to be a Moderator. Hard to believe I know ^&grin

Just a thought, it seems to me that a bunch of folks ( total strangers to you ) should not be a sounding board for your life decision. We really do not know you..We are not your parents, family, chaplain, or childhood friends. We might be pleased that you think enough of us to ask, but we should not be helping you make this call. Those who daily interact with you ,best know your character, temperment, and abilities. You should be asking them, since they are the ones who brought you into this world, nurtured you, raised you, taught you and cried with you. We have no dog in this fight and should not have gotten involved. I did click on a poll result for you, but my immediate guilt about it, prompted my comments..Michael

Hi all.
As Michael pointed out, I do not know many of you personally (with many exceptions). However, the purpose of me posting this was to see if anyone had any advice- this is a great community of people who have greatly varied and often very interesting experiences and a lot of knowledge to share. I would guess I have asked my 20 or so greatest mentors/role models/friends for advice. I got many different answers. I also think the replies on here have helped significantly. I would like to thank you all.
As a final note on my part, I think my brain/gut is telling me West Point. My heart is telling me Dartmouth. As of now, I am going with my heart, because it has never let me down. I have loved cadet life at Valley Forge and though I have done very well, it is not the most productive use of my time in college. I am a very academic person, and I have come to the conclusion through much advice that West Point will not serve my academic needs. I have also concluded that ROTC combined with prior enlistment will prepare equally for the Army. Perhaps I can give a guy who needs the free education and the structure a chance to change his life. But I think, as of now, that I am not destined to be a Ring Knocker, just an honest, hardworking officer.
Thank you,
Sandor

P.S. Thank you especially to Bret & Co. for the entertainment! {sm4}

Brad

It would be more impressive if you had actually imposed the infraction on yourself. What could be more even handed than that?

Jack

Hard to believe that they would turn down your offer. Are there any other Forums where your brand of justice might be better suited? There is some evidence to suggest, however, that the 'poacher turned gamekeeper' actually imposes the law more strongly than is often required.

Maybe you could convince her to join the forum ..... is she tall and opinionated too? ^&grin

I failed to clarify that the infraction occurred long after I had ceased to be one :wink2:, a moderator that is.
