Battled ground Art is not just diorama making it is a total concept which uses our figures and AFV's and attempts to create a moment in time.

It involves many skills.


Here I would like to show you the actual diorama that is behind the Battleground Art that appears in the K&C and TCS threads.

I use a cheap camera no special lighting and just snapped the pics.


My point being that Battleground Art DOES start off as an actual diorama, then other components are added.


This diorama is on a sculpted foam base coated with paint and spackle then dirt and plaster was added as snow.

The pine trees were made from mini Christmas trees and the shrubs are moss from my back yard preserved and sealed.

The building is a modified Hobby Bunker Building.

The reason I posted this here is that there is two art forms that I want to differentiate.

In Battleground Art you do anything and everything you can do to trick the eye into believing it is real. It is an art in itself.

Photography, lighting, composition, scale awareness, weathering and computer skills come heavily into play along with the diorama making skills.


I dont want anyone to lose sight of the basic skills required to present an actual diorama for display.

I personally do both, some of my scenes are temporary or modular, where I bring components together and then dismantle the scene.

What is good about this is when you get tired of it you can change it.

This particular scene is permanent

I want you guys to enjoy this hobby at what ever level you desire....If I can be of any help on any aspect of Battleground Art please feel free to contact me here on on the Battleground Art forum where help is available from me or any of our members.

Another point is this...... It makes me sad when I see a fellow collector / modeler say " I cant do this "


Believe me I am not that good, that is why I got out of plastic modeling...I liked the end result but I didn't want to put the work in.

That is also why I provoke the Manufacturers to do the work for us with accurate and detailed models.

Back to making a diorama.

1- Pay attention to theme and character interaction.

2- Get some dirt from your backyard...Why..It is dirt and it works

3. Get some moss from your backyard Why....It looks like shrubs. Look up preserving methods on the internet.

4- Cover those bases.

5- Push your tanks into the dirt...The real ones are heavy...they don't float

6- Hobby Bunker buildings...They are cheap and you can mess with them with $1 craft paints ( See enclosed pic )

Dont let me hear you say I wish I could do what you do...YOU CAN !...I am not that good I am just determined. Don't accept good enough, push yourself. Believe in yourself and you will have such great satisfaction.
