Are there Alligators in Nam ? (1 Viewer)

Great looking scene Steve, really like the actual water use, maybe I should buy an aquarium. I actually live on a river, we're to far South for Crocodiles, except for the rare visitor which are soon moved on (hopefully). There are Bull Sharks in the river, people don't swim here much, but I've always felt safe on my Kayak, I haven't been attacked....so far anyway :cool:

As to Aquariums, don't have one myself, but I know it's very relaxing watching the fishes swim by, just don't get tempted to get yourself a baby Croc ! Only safe one is a plastic one !:wink2:

No, don't think I'd be tempted to swim with Sharks in your river either or go Kayaking there for that ! {eek3}

Pat,

Great story! I spent some time with my hero MOH Roy Benavidez when I was in Japan and man he had some stories to tell. Another buddy of mine told me story about an encounter he had with a King Cobra while he was sitting on the out door commode in Thailand. He said his head and back was big as a human head and 23 feet long. One of the villagers killed it before it struck.

The only critters I had to deal with was rats in my foxhole in Korea and freaking scorpions and camel spiders in the desert. I am still paranoid of scorpions to this day because of them.

Was on recon mission with a night insertion in Cambodia. 2 Americans, 4 yards. The helo usually inserts in 3-5 different LZ's to confuse where the team really is dropped off. After hopping off we lay in a circle for 5-10 minutes to see if we were spotted. I took a head count after 5 minutes, and one of the yards was dead. I heard no shots, and could not find any wounds on him, so called an immediate extraction. Still could not find any wound on the trip home and thought it was a heart attack (he was only 16). When we got to hospital and stripped off his clothes, he had evidently jumped out of the helo right on top of a cobra, that bit him in his femoral artery. Doc thought he died within 30 seconds, but we couldn't hear him struggle because of the helo-most surreal experience of my tour there. Roy is a hero of every SF who was in VN. Typical military took way to long to recognize his incredible heroism.
