Are you a King & Country : RETIREMENT Collector or a NEW RELEASE Collector ?? (2 Viewers)

i know! I just got 3 amazing and fairly to very rare egyptian pieces in the mail today, set them up, and had my wife and kids come look at them. By their looks, they might as well have been watching paint dry.

lol!!!!!!

I just buy everything when it comes out new, that way i do not have to worry about whats retired. I also buy most things in dupicate. Manufacturers i buy this way are kc, figarti, j jenkins, tgm among others. Its just so much fun.

And i am a big fat liar. Actully thats just a dream, i usually buy what i like that is being retired unless i really see a must have that comes out when its new. Thus the 250 series or limited runs have effected me buying earlier releases i really want. Tends to put one in a quandry sometimes

You really had me goin' Hawkeye!! I was completely sold on the big fat lie! lol

I was reading that thinking, man, this is one lucky dude!

I agree with others - "Buy What You Like" - I do that too much already ;)

I have collections going where I did start late and by focusing on the retired figures - it helps keep you in the game in my opinion. Except for Operation Market Garden - wow - they are retiring everything !!! :D

i am glad i had somebody going, i am sure that there are those that are fortunate enough to buy that way. It would take the lottery to get me there though

I have been reading these treads for many years and always wondered what people do when they collect King & Country - Do they buy the new releases or just buy what goes on retirement list ??

For me - I do both - some of my collection is bought the second the new release is issued and other parts of my collection are regulated by retirement announcements. It is interesting the way you collect - lot has to do with economics - but, there is a strategy to some this as well.

I am sure there are people who have no strategy at all ^&grin - but, I pose this question to start and interesting conversation on how we buy ..... :)

Hello "CapitolRon":

At times I have seen really high prices of "retired" K&C sets that I had sell on eBay and I was tempted into selling the same set that I had for a good profit as well & then replacing that sold item with a new similar type K&C set at normal prices. Also, since 2003 when K&C came out with ever more realistic figures I have sold off the pre-2003 figures for post 2003 figures that are more realistic. Such ebay sales of perhaps only recently retired sets in the past have always more than paid for the new sets I got to replace the "old" ones. Indeed, the just above noted method of buying & selling is the way to go per someone we all know from Hong Kong! But, everyone should do what they think best at any point in time relative to they collection & displays.

IB - Great to hear from you !

I have stated before - I drift back in forth depending on the range. The way the economy and business is going you do need to have some patience to collect these days :) My old days of buying figures by big multiples are over - now selection is more important. Except when it is NAPOLEON IN EGYPT - then I just select all ! ^&grin

As a relatively new collector. I basically buy what I like and can afford. I have been lucky enough to pick up some of the older retired things. (yes I do love the Arnhem figures! :) and anxiously wait for Frost, Hackett and Horrocks and an Airborne Bren Carrier.

When I buy, it is strictly new issue items. Have no interest in pursuing retired items. I have been doing this long enough that I have had a chance at just about everything as it came on the market. If I didn't buy it new, I certainly didn't want it enough to pursue it at higher prices on the secondary market. I have, in fact, sold most of my older KC stuff to finance other TS buys, so retired really means nothing to me. The ONLY exception was with the recent Albatros aircraft, where I passed on the Richthofen version, changed my mind, and had to have my dealer track one down for me, which he succeeded in doing and at issue price. -- Al

Me it's stricly new releases
If i mist it i don't need it

Lately it has been the "Just Released" but my preference is the older pieces. The retired sets are obviously more expensive and I have to think a bit harder about the need for an additional figure. The K&C AWI range is a long wait between new releases but that does give me a chance to get the current sets while "hoping" to find the retired ones. (Always looking!). But, as has been discussed on other threads, a good diorama needs multiples of figures to make a "Marching Column" or a Firing Line" look correct.
