I agree Jack, its a superb ground hall just great. So much to see at Duxford overall that its difficult to know where to start when you get there, they have some stunning Air displays in the summer too, highly recommended. The WW1 Tank in Queensland sounds well worth seeing, we have a MkV Brit Tank at the museum which is also cool.

Thanks for getting back but as I am new I have a question eveyone else might know the answer to:

When you say 'we have a MkV Brit Tank at the museum' do you mean 'we' as in 'we the English people' , we as in 'I have a season pass' or we as in 'I am the director'?

The German WW1 tank was one of the casualties of the January 2011 Queensland floods. It's currently somewhere being repaired - though it wasn't in pristine condition to start with. A few years ago, the people from Munster Panzermuseum came out to measure it up so they could build a replica to display themselves. They offered the Queensland museum the opportunity to obtain new-made parts (since they were going to be making them anyway) to replace the destroyed/damaged bits on Mephisto but they were knocked back.

There is a small mindedness that you see in people at times that shocks me. Surely it could only have been a financial decision rather than a collection policy issue. But as you and I both know it sat outside exposed to the elements for half a century or more so its not surprising.

Although to be fair, I seem to recall that the Imperial war Museum cut the one they had up for scrap in the 1930s.

Have you been to the Le Musee De Blindes in Saumur France? They have an excellent collection of AFV's from all eras including one of the best collection of German WWII AFV's! Here's a few pic's but i have heaps more. Basically i spent the whole day in there like a kid in a lolly shop...^&grin

Interesting photo alright Breslau, i have been to the QLD museum in Brissy, but that was many moons ago so i'll have to re-acquaint myself with the place again.

Here's a few pic's that you and Jack might be interested in. They are WWI tanks and are located at the same museum that i posted the pic's previously.

Thanks for the pictures! I know that this is hardly the most academic of posts but the French tank in the top left hand corner was one of the things that got me into history. Growing up I had three history books that I read cover to cover many, many dozens of times:

The How and Why Wonder Book of the American Revolution
" " " of the American Civil War
" " " of the First World War, which had a drawing of that tank which made it seem like it was the greatest vehicle in all of history!

Does any one else remember this series?

We've not seen the forthcoming K&C eastern front releases yet, and yet I have said ' No, I mustn't deviate, I must stick to collecting plan of D day, Bulge, RAF, North Africa, Arnhem etc. And then this pm I sit down and watch 'Greatest Tank battles- Kursk ' , an excellent prog, a mix of computer animation and veterans interviews and am watching Stugs, T34's,Tigers,Ferdinands etc......suddenly a thought crosses my mind like a tumbleweed in the street in a John Wayne Western and I'm thinking 'Well maybe just one AFV or maybe two' ......how addictive is this hobby{eek3} Do any of you guys also fold like a piece of origami?
