Armor Wish List (1 Viewer)

OZ, sorry that it didn't come across but "SGF" is ALWAYS said with a smile to the other guy, expecting a suitable term such as "Shermanoholic" in return. It is not a spiteful indictment, just a gibe.

I don't think I have a "chip on my shoulder". I just like American vehicles and WILL stand up for them to be represented in model form.

By the way, one thing; the end statistics may have come out as 5:1 loss ratio but if you were a Sherman crewman your chance of dying came less from the Panther but from mines, hidden AT guns and the little guy in a foxhole with a rocket launcher.

Gary

Hi Gary,

I took your comment for what it was, in jest

Actually I was impressed by your Sherman knowledge and was looking forward to your contribution once we start working on a Sherman. I'll be the first to admit my knowledge is heavily biased towards German AFVs.

I am quite interested in learning about the Shermans used by the Canadian Army.

As for the 5:1 comparison. It seems more German tanks were blown up by their crews after becoming damaged, stuck, running out of fuel etc. than those lost to enemy action.

Frank

Frank,

you are spot on there mate.

my reading up also seems to indicate Kurt probably died in a Tiger II, though i too do not have solid evidence to prove or disprove this theory.

As Frank mentioned, Oz took 1 tough subject.

lets be honest, if the well documented Wittmann cannot be tied down to a Tiger number for his Villers Bocage exploit (205,222,231?), what chances have Kurt?

I think its up to Oz to use artistic license, and imagination, to decide if Kurt had a late Tiger. I think chances are, being such an ace at a time when many experienced tank commanders have perished, his superiors would have passed him the Tiger II, which was deemed a more powerful tank.

So Oz, why dont you join me, have a Wittmann's tiger, :) and wait for Kurt's Tiger II :D?

By the way Gary, maybe the small chance of a Sherman being killed by a Panther is because of the big ratio of Sherman to Panther (or any german tank at that stage of the war) in the first place?;)

Just a thought.

Sincerely,

Nasir kasmani.

You are quite right, the bulk of German armor faced the Russians.

Hi Gary, I have been on numerous forums (mainly American based) and it has been my experience that the SGF term is rarely used in a friendly fashion, and you didn't use any smilies which indicated some hostility. I no longer post on a diecast aircraft forum (TMH) largely because of similar remarks that are mainly posted by current/ex US military guys who have trouble adapting their comments to civilian forums. Which is understandable but still unpleasant and not something I would like to see occur on this forum.

Sorry if I seemed to overreact but I have a low tolerance for tags like that as it indicates a lack of tolerance similar to the old Nazi regime. I know I once made an offensive post myself that included some racial slurs but that was out of anger rather than any 'beliefs' I have. I don't want to turn this into 'another' political debate but anti German rather than anti Nazi descriptions isn't necessary or desirable.

Hi Frank and Nasir, I noted that most of Knispel's scores were in Mark IV's against Russian tanks but it seems he did progress to Tigers early on as his scores were accumulated when he was a gunner for the commander(s) of 1/503 which traditionally had the turret number 100. Therefore I'm presently checking out this possibility as imo it's better to have 'him' represented as a loader than nothing.

That said I would agree that his service in later Tiger I's, as represented by the HB version, may have been limited as these tanks were quickly destroyed in France by air attacks etc. And I am still doing some research on this but limited to online material as I don't have any specific 503rd books atm.

I wonder if HB might also make a Marder.Although CS has just produced one, with HB's idea of customising this would give collectors a wide choice of theatre for this vehicle that seems to be very popular with AFV collectors.

That's a good suggestion Rob. It also reminds me that I forgot include the Hetzer on my list.

Good idea yourself Frank,i loved that Hetzer that Gordon painted.I think the Hetzer is such a cool little tank killer, does anyone know what theatres it served in?.I have seen several pics of them knocked out during the Bulge.

Just received my Tiger a few minutes ago, and what a beast!

A few issues aside (broken parts <bloody fedex:mad:> & things like that), am absolutely delighted with the Tiger.

Am hoping Ana will help sent the replacement for the broken, chipped AND cracked nuzzle(are Fedex employing apes or something) so that i can sent to hobby shop for fixing.

This Tiger has strengthed my faith in HB, and cant wait for other HB other German releases now.

Sincerely,

Nasir Kasmani.

I agree the Hetzer was an excellent design. To answer your question, it served everywhere (east and west) starting in July 1944. The majority of the Jagdpanzer 38 were assigned to the antitank companies of infantry, jager, grenadier, cavalry and volksgrenadier divisions.

At the beginning of the Ardennes offensive 18 Panzerjager companies plus Army Panzerjager unit 741 had a total of 295 Hetzers.

I'm sorry to hear your Tiger was damaged in shipping. After all that anticipation that must have been frustrating. It's always a risk in this hobby.

Hope it all gets sorted out for you.

Thanks for the info Frank, thats very helpful.

Hi Frank,

Luckily for the Fedex guy, he left immediately after delivery.

If he had lingered for 5 minutes i would have been lambasted him.

I know, it may have been other Fedex guys who damaged it, probably during the transit, but it felt like a father seeing his first child born perfectly healthy but then discovered the child littered with bruises due to the nurses poor handling.

anyway, i am absolutely swept aside by the quality of the Tiger.

I was so impressed, i immediately enquired to Ana if i could preorder the Panther already (even though HB had not released any schedule for the Panther!)

I hope Ana didnt take it negatively, and think that i was playing a fool.
I am serious.

I was as proud as a first time father, and once i finished fixing the damages, the Tiger will be the centerpiece of my display.

I can only imagine how the lucky bugger who purchased SEVEN Tigers feel.

Sincerely,

Nasir Kasmani.

Nasir,

Sorry to hear about the damage. There's nothing that ruins one's day than to open a package and find it's damaged.

However, your Tiger sounds great. Can you post photos in the Tigers Gallery when you have a chance.

Thanks.

jazzeum,

i'll be proud to send pics once i repair them.

it will take around 2 weeks though, as lastly, i require a replacement nozzle, and need to repaint some sections of the tank and figures.

Only the repair of the diorama been completed.

Why dont we ask the chap who bought SEVEN tanks to post too.
SEVEN Tigers side by side. *WOW*

Nasir Kasmani.

Seven Tigers, now that would be a cool pic.
