Arnhem in April! (1 Viewer)

I know this is not Arnhem, but it is Para related. How about this for skillful flying,in the dark and on a river bank. Each of these concrete memorials (theres another behind the camera)is the exact spot where one of the Gliders landed to take Pegasus Bridge,no wonder the Germans were stunned.Pretty impressive eh?:cool:

And here is the remains of a Horsa that landed at the bridge that night.

Major Cain of the South Staffs in Red Beret peering round a corner with a PIAT tucked under his arm. With his left hand he's reaching back to one of his men, who's toting a primed bomb and a Sten gun... This blokes got a scrimmed helmet on, unfastened, with his Red Beret stuck in his smock's top pocket. That'd be a fine tribute to a VC winner and one of his men.
As regards the new figures, I tried weaseling some info out of Mike at K&C, sadly there's a security clampdown on all airfields... he threatened to shoot me if I tried again!

Can I second, third and fourth that please!.A figure of Major Cain would be so good. There was an excellent programme about him presented by his son in law the one and only Jeremy Clarkson.Major Cain was here there and everywhere in the battle inspiring his men and taking out German Tanks. He is reported to have taken out or disabled SIX TIGER TANKS a Stug III and several SPG's.All this was done despite injuries and deafness. If a man was worth a figure in this excellent K&C range it was Major Cain,it was bravery such as his that won us the war.:cool:

the funny thing is, his own daughter Frances, who is married to Jeremy Clarkson (funny eh?), did not know of her father's VC until he passed away.

a humble man.

Most WW2 veterans do not talk about the war or their medals. Only recently have veterans become more open as they realise their stories should be told before it is too late.

that's true for all sides then.

even those returning from POW camps/gulags were not seeking sympathy, and carried on with whatever remains of their lives.

real men indeed.

they just don't make people like they use to.

That is all true. Times are different today.

Yes we have to be thankful we had that calibre of people when we needed them.

Just gleaned the Para sniper... nice figure but no ceegar.
Should be a cheek piece on the butt of his rifle, they got the leather sling right then Mr. Wong painted it as webbing!
The bloke's festooned with tackle, toggle rope, grenades, ammo bandolier, spare pouches and wotnot. Would have been so much nicer if this had been a 'clean' figure. Even better if they'd have left all the tackle off and done him in a smock tied with a toggle rope and the leather sling with Scout Regiment Telescope over his shoulder.
Still, he looks rather menacing covering my Para patrol from an upstairs window at the Bridge!
