I hear voices (maybe in my head) that say we need more big guns, that the artilliary should be bettter represented! Well I for once agree. I'm a Staffordshire man born and bred and I went to school (some of the time) with a few kids by the name of Baskerfield (no hounds). So heres my sales pitch wouldn't it be great to have a nice little set of lance sargent Baskerfield VC manning his gun ready to take on the three (possilbly Tigers, some books disagree) tanks and SPG's that he knocked out to earn that little bronze cross. Well if thats not possible maybe Major Cain (South Staffords) or even some one from the dear old RAMC.Well hopefully this will start a little debate!:p

Re: Arnham

I think thats a good idea.I have been saying for a while that i would love to see a model of Robert Cain at Arnhem.A true hero who performed miracles against overwhelming odds often single handed whilst suffering injuries. Its because of men like him we won the war.(although not Arnhem!)

Re: Arnham

I would be honored to have either Baskerfield or Cain represented in my collection.

4 of the 5 VCs at Arnhem were posthumously awarded.

I like to think of the Arnhem artillery set as honouring Lance-Sergeant John Baskeyfield, the mortar crew as representing Captain Queripel, the PIAT operator as being Major Cain and the charging figure as that of Lt Grayburn.

Unfortunately the one survivor, Cain, would appear to have not imparted that spirit into his daughter, who married infinitely annoying TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson:

Alas, the only Irishman of the five, Flight Lieutenant David Lord, would not easily feature in a new AN series, as it'd take a C47 to do so.

:D Btw, I've just noticed that stolen horse has a rather Waffen SS looking camo pack behind its saddle. I'm hoping Andy will issue some Waffen SS Cavarly guys one day soon. I guess they were most often on the Eastern Front but I'm not that pedantic about where I put stuff.

Hey, Oz..The mounted germans are great, my collection holds 32 at present.including a 7 piece SS band...Now for some Kuban Cossacks. regards ern.

Oz,there are so many wants and variables when it come to Arnhem. But the main point is this:Having lost to us in a cricket competition you've now lost to New Zealand as well!.Whats happening Oz?!!!

Rob

We agreed to lose the cricket in exchange to beating NZ at Rugby, afterall they don't take Rugby to seriously do they ;)

Thats the trouble, your winning at so many sports these days you can pick and choose!

I wouldn't mind so much but we taught the world to play it and now can't seem to win it(much)

I like to think of it being a case of us being a charitable nation, able to spread good feeling by letting others win in these sports.

Ooops, just noted the thread title. Wasn't me that steered it off course this time.
