Billy Bishop and his custom blue-nosed Nieuport 17 fighter from 60 Squadron

The plane and figure were my prize from John's 2011 Caption Contest. Now I know why all of you have been raving about the Knight's of the Sky series. Now I am looking forward to future releases of Allied ground crew figures.

As has been said, great picture and lighting!

Read here for war stories of Billy Bishop, click me.

Interestingly after the War, he bought a Fokker DVII, pictured here; reproduced from the above link.
Perhaps we should put him out at the March show with a Fokker instead!:)

An interesting article, thank you for posting the link. Bishop's wartime record is open to much controversy and this author has made a good defense of it, but there is still too much that is uncertain in regards to the identity of the German aerodrome in question and to the viability of Bishop's victory claims to put a final chapter to the questions. But, there is also the point that these events are now almost 100 years past and to impune Bishop's record at this point is pretty much an exercise in futility. Bishop was a hero, and this shouldn't change just because of uncertainty in certain aspects of events that have poor documentation. There is a reason for the phrase 'fog of war'. -- Al

Randy...

first off....that is a beautiful picture you took...you're one of the most talented photographers on this forum...the plane and figure look spectacular...nice job...

I gotta ask...was there a note in your box about this being a contest prize you won...

I received a package from John a couple of days ago...

it included a nice JJD piece and a really cool black JJD t-shirt...

but there was no note or explanation in the box as to why I received it...

John told me I had won a prize some time ago...it was for being the closest in guessing the location of where the lacrosse ball was in the Caption Contest #5 photo...but that was some time ago and I never pushed for the prize...

did you receive a notification with your parcel...I didn't...

I sent him an email thanking him...but have not received a reply yet...

Yes Mike

There was a printed note in the box about a prize for the 2011 CC and I had gotten a notice a box was on the way on 3/14. John told me this AM he was on his way to catch a train to China so will be away for a while.

Thank you for your nice comments.

Randy
