In what is described as the worst loss since 1896, Arsenal got thrashed at Old Trafford yesterday by Man U, 8-2. I started to watch the game but when Van Persie's PK was saved and Man U went up 2-0, I turned the TV off as I had some outside cleanup as a result of the hurricane.

I think even Ferguson felt a little bad at the result. This could be a rather tough year for Arsenal, having lost two of their best to transfers. Wenger is starting to sound a bit beleaugered and I wonder if the end might not be near for him. The transfer window closes in two days and if they don't make any decent pickups, it could be a struggle. Might be no Champions League next year. Wonder how long ownership will tolerate this situation.

I don't think any manager in the EPL can keep his job with a result like this.

My guess is that he will be given his marching orders soon.

I think its what was deserved (God that took some saying!!!) Man Utd were the better team and arsenal were out played and tactically were a mess. The fact of the matter is that arsenal fans need to get a bit of a reality check instead of whinging like little babies. The club is financially sound and the stadia is superb. Come the end of the season I would expect Arsenal to be there or therabouts as always

I think the players on the pitch were capable of at least playing better than they did and, its seemingly forgotten that the players have been whofully poor for a long time with plenty of school boy errors (more than being outplayed) costing them cups and such like last season. it does seem Wenger is taking all the stick for a bunch of under achievers of recent. Its also telling that nobody here has mentioned the 8 first team players missing from the starting 11 and bench!!!! when these are back and the couple who are supposed to be coming in time will tell.

Sometimes it just happens when everything falls into place and the other team falls apart. Newcastle battered Man Utd 5 1 but, nobody called for ferguson to go then and after that they were beaten shortly after heavily fergie blamed the colour shirts!!!!!

I don't think there is a better manager out there at the moment and what wenger has done for arsenal is astonishing. the grass is not always better on the other side. Gooners should be careful for what they wish. My guess would be that arsenal would be nuts to dump wenger and after three games its lunacy to talk of it. They just got through a tough champions league game. The season starts at Swansea

Not sure this really shows whats going on. Its a dream for the press who are as poor as arsenals defence yesterday in this country. Has anyone else seen the sunday supplement on a sunday morning and one will know what I mean. If they were as good as they make out and as knowledgable they would not be reporters. For me, arsenal have always been my second team and, the only ones I have followed avidly apart from my own team. Apart from Man Utd and Chelsea seventeen other PL teams would love to have as much success and be able to play the game the way wengers arsenal do. Thats why I said fans should be careful for what they wish. A great manager does not become bad overnight and I am sure he will turn around this current blip. Just untwist the underwear and, support the team and manager. Arsenal, IMO, at seasons end will be minimally champions league placed and, I would not be surprised if they win a cup

If the Man Utd vs Arsenal match had ended with a score of 3-2 instead of 8-2, the result would have been easier to accept. It also would not have placed Arsene Wenger directly under the spotlight.

Ferguson's men took their chances and went for the jugular, but the Gunner's tactics for the match were just not up to it. Martin Keown and Lee Dixon (both ex-Arsenal) had interesting comments on this.

As it stands, Arsenal are in 17th place on the table just above the relegation zone. It is still early days, but this surely is not the best way to start the season in view of the negative psychological impact on the team.

Arsenal have a steep hill to climb for the season and the questions are.....does Wenger still have what it takes ? Has he left it too late ?

Did you see that sky reporter who said one of the players was having a ' Holocaust ' of a game. That doesn't even work! How can you have a Holocaust of a game?! The trouble with football is that although a great game it's the whole structure around it I hate, the game is infested with yobs, morons, and Jurassic Park inhabitants. Much as I love watching England play football, club football leaves me cold I'm afraid. And for the love of God when are the BBC going to learn that the majority of people in this country are not so obsessed with it that they want to hear about it above all else. An actual news item on the BBC the other day was the fact that the Utd manager has decided to start giving them interviews again! WHO GIVES A FLYING FAHOODLE??!!!! I don't care if I never see his gum chewing face on my tv again , it's high time the beeb created it's own football channel so fans can watch their games without disrupting the schedules.

Oh and bring back live BBC Cricket coverage!:wink2: {bravo}}
Wow 7.38am and I'm already ranting{eek3}:wink2:

Morning chaps!!^&grin

Rob

(In case you are wondering where the above rant came from, I spent yesterday nursing the mother and baby of all hangovers after indulging a little too much at a family barbecue on bank Holiday Monday. So when I awoke this morning feeling like a human again and full of life, I thought I'd have a bit of fun with my football loving fellow froggers!^&grin:wink2:)

Yes I didn't actually mean the reporter was in any of the catergories, I meant others in the whole football scene as it were.^&grin Although its hard to feel sorry for football managers as they sure get paid well, you had to feel a little for Mr Wenger, what a kicking they got!{eek3}

Manchester United were very impressive against a weakened and tired Arsenal team, at home. You have to admire the way the OT team machine moves on .... I remeber watching Giggs make his debut against City and score.

The media have a had a field day and the Arsenal directors now seem to have loosened the cheque book - maybe better to have sold Fabregas and Nasri early then bought early themselves, rather than delay for a few more pounds only to face last minute buys with inflated fees themselves? I never thought I would see Arsenal as a selling club, they have been one of the moneybags all my life, like United. (I remember everyone going mad when United bought Martin Buchan for about £100,000 in the sixties.)

Could I suggest, not wishing to be controversial, that Manchester City's 5-1 away win against a full strength spurs side was a better result though, especially when you consider the few times they have beaten them historically in the premier league?

Its a long way from a thrashing at Fulham in the old third division just a few years ago .....

Viva Manchester!

Looking forward to a much more refreshing and open title race, with Liverpool, Chelsea and probably Arsenal and Spurs in it when they have finished buying. Impressed with the Liverpool improvement in particular.

I think your right the performance of Man city was superb. Spurs have been shown quite clearly in a week that they are not really at the party yet.

Its gearing up to be a great season for sure and, there will be a few twists and turns with more shock results to come

Manchester City?

Is that a real team or made up?

Did you mean Manchester Utd?

:)

After 7 matches, including a lost to Spurs today, the Gunners find themselves two points clear of the relegation zone. Not a pretty picture at the moment :(

Go and attend an Old Firm derby in Glasgow if you want to experience real secatrian bigotry and hatred as well as offensive singing.

Exactly, abuse goes on at every game its nothing compared to the examples given or, some other derby games I could mention. Listen to the newcastle fans or sunderland fans abusing each other even when they are playing other teams.

Storm in a tea cup!!!!!

As long as it doesn't descend into rascist taunts why all the fuss?
