Hi, everybody! As promised, here are photos from the Artist Preservation Group's show in Gettysburg this past weekend.

Just a note beforehand--this isn't a toy soldier show as such, or as distinct from the MarxMan's Gettysburg Toy Soldier show, but an exhibition of military miniatures, from connoisseur style to classic toy soldier style, and a vendor mart, also representing the same range of styles. The APG also holds an auction of painted figures and other items of interest, and the proceeds go to restoring artifacts from the battlefield, or acquiring new artifacts, for the museum.

But now, having preambled, as Sammy Davis, Jr, once put it, here are my pics, starting with the exhibition...

Standing like sentinels at the entrance were these two standard bearers, Johnny Reb:

and Billy Yank:

Though a general Civil War theme obtained, naturally enough, exhibits ranged over many time periods, such as WWII:

DSCN1023.jpg

and the Revolutionary War:

A grouping of figures on display:

For toy soldier fans, here is an excellent diorama of Rorke's Drift, using Conte's figures:

DSCN1026.jpg

and some detail shots:

And to answer the question about the next generation in the hobby, here is this entry:

I had to smile, and I wished I could have met the artist and offer encouragement to continue in the hobby.

Not only fully-round figures but also flats were represented. I apologize, I didn't confirm who painted these:

and William Tell and his son:

More fully-round figures, depicting Civil War subjects.

This piece was one of those donated to the auction, a New York Zouave officer:

One of Berdan's Sharpshooters:

DSCN1037.jpg

and this trio from Fredericksburg:

This is an unusual piece, which defies categorizing:

DSCN1039.jpg

It was certainly eye-catching, and cleverly done, I think.

Here is a group of entries by my fellow MFCA member, Vern Minkwitz.

A Prussian hussar from the Seven Years' War:

and, in flat, a Prussian dragoon officer:

and hussar officer:

Those flats are based on Adolph Menzel's illustrations and are produced by Conny Schulte in Germany, which he sells through his online store, Fredericus Rex.

More American subjects...

From the French and Indian War, "The Pursuit":

The kit is sculpted by Alan Ball, if I'm not mistaken.

This one is a great figure, and well finished--"Defiance":

DSCN1049.jpg

And from the Korean War, "Chosin Coffee":

DSCN1050.jpg

a pair of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children:

DSCN1051.jpg

and a pair of Screamin' Eagles:

DSCN1052.jpg

Another piece representing the toy soldier end of the hobby was this huge diorama, maybe 8' x8', representing the Battle of Gettysburg, executed with plastic figures:

DSCN1055.jpg

It has a childlike charm to it. Here are some detail shots:

I think this might have been produced under the direction of one of the shop owners. It was auctioned for $1200 at the show.

More exhibits, showing the range of subjects....

Here's a quick ad for next year's MFCA show:

DSCN1059.jpg

We took a break to get breakfast, and I thought it would be funny to have a picture of me, standing under the "No Loitering" sign :p My buddy Dennis Sosna jumped in with flyer for next year's show.

Another group of flats, painted by my fellow MFCA member Vaughn Whisker, depicting Civil War subjects:

Here's the last group of my pics from the exhibition.

The 5th Texas at Little Round Top:

Private Henry Fleming:

the 9th Virginia, in the center of the line at Gettysburg:

Some more German subjects:

And Cossaks serving with the Wehrmacht, if I'm not mistaken:

DSCN1073.jpg

and a pair of large-scale Fallschirmjäger, kits sculpted by John Rosengrant, I think:

A Leatherneck at Tripoli:

And another group of 54mm figures:

Next time, pics from the vendor area.

Prost!

Thanks Brad for the pictures of the show. The painting of this caliber is amazing and some talented people paint figures. I enjoyed them all and I like the kid's first figure that was painted. I have my kids first figures they painted in my cabinet. I also enjoyed the Chosin Reservoir figures, you could feel the cold. John

Many thanks for posting these photos, Brad...much appreicated. I particularly liked the child's first attempt at figure painting! Was it auctioned?! I would have bought it!

Brad,

Great photos and thanks for taking the time out to take them. There is some fine painting there!

Jeff

Fantastic pics and some remarkable painting. The FJ troops for me, are the show stopper

Thanks Brad it's been ages since I've been to a show featuring painted model figures an your photos brought back alot of fine memories. Thank for the memories. By the way did notice the Rorke's Drift Diorama featuring Conte's painted plastics figures. Another thank you for the close up photos of it.......The Lt.

Wow Brad, Thanks so much for the pics, there's so much talent out there it just never ceases to amaze me. Those 5th Texas uniforms really grab me, they look so real. Thanks for taking the Time, nice to see the flats being well represented.
Ray

Thanks, guys, I'm glad you're enjoying the pics! We had thunderstorms pass through last night, so I'll post the rest later today.

Prost!
