Preparing a REAL Lantern;

Cheers
Harry

The Old Gaffer's keeping an eagle eye on these two work-shy dudes. Last lantern they worked on turned out to be only fit for the trashcan.

Almost finished.

Oops - camera slipped, but the snap looks okay.

Aye, aye. Now, what could possibly be going on here? My naturally upright and moral discernment definitely sniffs the odour of scandal going on here. Why else would a Brit shore patrol take such an inordinate interest in some wedding procession in 1925 Shanghai? (Must be winter cos they’re wearing Blues, not Tropical Whites). Hmmm, gimme some time and I’ll do some snooping. Maybe find out who the bride was. Willing to bet she's some relation of Missus H.

Regards
Harry

Good greif! look at the painting on those  You certainly have a wonderful collection.

Jeff

Why, thank you so much Jeff. Indeed, how very kind of you to say so.
PS. Checked your emails lately..?

H

I have now, thanks very much. It's very kind of you to say "indeed, how very kind of you to say so".

Oh, that's simply terribly, supaah kind of you Jeff, indeed by Jove.
Have big plans for mid-May. Will be entering my order in person here in Hong Kong tomorrow. It'll be kinda to the right of Hindustan.
Watch this space.

Cheers

Those are beautiful figures Harry. Are those EoI?

Nope. They're K&C FoB RN Ratings, The SOHK Manchu Wedding Procession and the SOHK Preparing the Lantern sets - with a better lantern IMO.
For my latest EoI snaps check in the Thanks Ken - Part 2 Thread, on the Miscellaneous Manufacturers section of the forum.

Thanks Rob.
I got the FoB Naval Ratings last year with exactly this kind of vignette in mind. Will be able to expand on this sort of idea once I get my hands on the new Sampans that have just been announced.

Cheers

H,
Were you able to do some research, and find out who the bride is? And why Shore Patrol would bring a crew-served weapon along for the festivities?
Mike

Harry me ole mucker !!! This looks great and seems especially beautifully in b&w, which is weird given the colourful nature of the set.

Yeah, the Beautiful Bride was Missus Heid's Great-Granny, who it turns out was gainfully employed operating the till in the Inter-Services Bar of the NAAFI in pre-war Shanghai for a few months prior to the wedding. I'm told by her uncle the festivities were among the best and most expensive shindigs seen in North China during the entire 20th Century and passed into national legend. Long-lost and probably completely unknown relatives turned up from all four corners of the country for the month-long party.
I understand the Shore Patrol got involved cos the Forces Regiment of Auditors discovered some blatant discepencies in the Mess Funds - apparently.
That's not a crew-served weapon. I'm sure I've seen it used single-handed by some Brave Royal Navy Matelot wearing asbestos gloves - in a comic.
:)

Cheers

Actually Scott, here's a rather colourful photo-shoot specially commissioned for you this very morning old boy. The, eeeerrr, operator, certainly seems to be beyond himself with his pride and joy. Or maybe he just likes the ambience of the environment around that, eeeerrr, Scotish Castle, in the background.
Enjoy.....
